I just got my ultrasound results and my doctor appointment is still 2 days from now. My gallbladder findings goes something like this: There are multiple, echogenic, shadowing structures seen with aggregate measurement of 22mm. CBD is not dilated. Impression: multiple cholelithiasis. Do I have gallstones and does the size alarming? I don't feel anything aside from occasional lower back pains that come and go. Any reply will be greatly appreciated.

Cholelithiasis means gallstones I'm afraid. The rest of the report means that they've shown up on the ultrasound and there's no swelling in the common bile duct, which would suggest the stones are, fortunately, confined to your gallbladder and haven't migrated. Lots of people have gallstones and aren't even aware as they don't have pain or symptoms. 22mm is fairly large but not enormous. Your surgeon may suggest surgery (probably key hole) or as you're apparently not having other symptoms, they may suggest a 'wait and see' policy.

Thanks for the reply. I am a little confused what is meant by "aggregated measurement of 22mm". I searched the meaning of aggregate and it says " a collective amount or sum" so I presume the 22mm is not a single stone mass. Sorry, my doctor's appointment is tomorrow but I am just very nervous what she'll say. Hopefully, it won't need surgery or what. ??

Lower back pains aren't really a symptom of gallstones. Pain is usually felt in upper right quarter and right shoulder blade area. The pain is severe and debilitating and usually comes on following eating, especially fatty foods such as pizza, curries, fries erc. It is usually accompanied by nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea which is yellowish due to the presence of bile. Sometimes there is shivering. There is a feeling of generally being unwell, tiredness and lack of appetite. You don't appear to be exhibiting any of these symptoms, so probably they will just wait and see. As you have gallstones confirmed, it might be wise to cut down on fat, baked goods and spicy foods which can trigger attacks.

Ps, I'm also puzzled by what they mean by aggregate. I would ask doctor if that is a cluster of small stones or a cluster containing stones of 22mm.
