Doing okay a week on

I had a posterior repair a week ago and thought I'd tell you all about it you lucky things 😃

Well first off off I was expecting a and p plus vaginal hysterectomy so to just have the anterior was a surprise but as the surgeon said, never can be too sure till you get in there 😉

So so when I went to theatre I had to have the drip in my wrist which hurt because I don't like to share anything least of all blood.

Woke up up with catheter, no packing, no pain just uncomfortable from the catheter. Some ladies gave said they can't feel it but I did. Gave a constant cystitisy feeling if you know what I mean?

Was as given pain meds ibuprofen and paracetamol and in the night oramorph and this was lovely to help me sleep. I was wary of taking it beforehand but when it came to it was fine and I'm pleased to say has not left me a drug addict!

at 6am next day catheter came out and it was instantly more comfortable. Got up and had a wash, had to stand around waiting for my oestrogel to dry which was a pain (literally) so my advice is to switch to patches for recovery.

went home after lunch. The car journey was interesting. Holding on to the handle above the door whilst perching on a bum cheek lol. When home it was quite hard to get a chair which I could use, I would have to keep swapping. Also difficult to sit or lay for any longer than an hour. So a case of getting up, sitting down, getting up, lying down, getting up, lying down on other side etc etc. I felt okay in myself not too bad. Balancing on hands/elbows to lower/get up helps too.

I luckily dont don't suffer with constipation so didn't take any laxatives but nonetheless was not looking forward to my first poo, considering the repair I'd had. when I farted it hurt like a bruise just before so I was apprehensive 😃 So anyway when I got home I felt I needed to go so I took my phone lol and just waited. It hurt a lot just before my bowels actually opened, a terrific brushing, pressure feeling. Made me catch my breath but the actual passing was fine lol. Tmi much 😃 No pain in between motions and I've not suffered at all apart from the bruised pain when I've worked out is the stool moving to the rectum\anus which is still there after a week. I cope by labour breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. I know it can take a few weeks for this to go.

Sorry had to continue on a new essay!

anyway so as far as the stitches are concerned they are now feeling a bit nippy stingy itchy which I am taking to be a good sign. If anyone is interested I am using virgin coconut oil once a day on the stitches plus washing in the shower with hydromol. I think the coconut oil is helping actually, there's evidence to suggest it promotes healing plus I use it for sex lubrication so my bits are not being assaulted by a foreign body so to speak!  Well apart from the male nurse who had to help me on with my knickers and sanitary towel but that's another story ha ha!!!

anyhoo so I have basically been pottering around. Doing bits making tea etc, even doing the washing. Don't worry it's a case of one item a time in machine a capsule done then in tumble drier. So no heavy lifting. Plus, it actually makes me feel better. So, I only do what I want, and really, my body says no to things. For instance, I went to reach up to get my porridge off a high shelf and my body said no. So it does tell you.

I have been mostly pottering in the mornings and lounging in the afternoons.

today is the first day where I've been able to sit at the breakfast bar on a stool, albeit on a cushion 😉

So its progress evertday. Mentally I am just the same as ever so I can see me being very bored very soon, so don't hesitate to ask me any questions!

Ive been signed off work for 3cweeks but booked off 8 so I need to phone the consultant secretary about that. I think I'll be okay maybe at 6 but def not three.

    so I hope I've helped a bit!

oh forgot I'm 44 with 2 kids 19 and 14. Docs think that fast labours plus early menopause did for me lol

You are probably doing more than is recommended after a week even though you have felt OK doing so. For instance the washing. Complete rest is recommended for the first 2 weeks with gentle walks to the loo or around the house once an hour. There's lots of information on this forum about post op care and what you should and shouldn't do. It prevents any problems in the future.

Wow good for you mumstaxi and well done!

Don't think it's TMI it is what it is and I think the best way to help each other is to pass around info

    Best of luck xxx

Great story, you epic have put even my long posts in the shade. LOL. Well done you but please slow down or  all that work might all catch up you and you might find yourself utterly sore, shattered and an emotional rec like I was. Great in weeks 1 & 2 so I thought I do stuff too. Big mistake hormones kicked in a week 3 and with reducing meds and soreness increasing as stitches tightened as they healed. it all got to me and I ended up back in bed - forced rest and very emotional. Happy healing xx
