Dont Know What is Really Causing the Flushes

Posted , 4 users are following.

Everytime I put anything in my mouth and swollow I have a hot flush/sweat, whether its food, drink (hot and cold), a mint, even brushing my teeth.  This does not seem a "normal" menopause symptom does it ? Why after everything that I swollow? I worry because I have quite bad gum disease with some teeth leaking infection into my mouth.....maybe its the infection causing the hot sweats and flushing as I take bacteria into my stomach. I have been to dentist who tells me to just keep on cleaning my teeth but its not working the infection isnt clearing. I dont know what is causing the hot sweats and flushes. All my blood tests are normal except the female hormones which my doctor says is border-line peri-menopause and i havent had a period since April (2 months missed periods)...so the sweats could be menopausal. I just dont get why after everything i swollow...unless it really is dental related. I get butterflies in my tummy before the hot flush too. What does anyone think...i feel like i am loosing my mind, the dental infections/peridontal disease is driving me mad, i cant believe the dentist wont extract my teeth but rather keeps on cleaning infected teeth !

    Hi Ladywear

I can't say I have had that symtom, however, I did Google a few things and it is suggested that some kind of medications can cause that. Are you on any? Also high anxiety can too. I think see your Doctor as he or she will be able to advise further. I also did read that eating can trigger a flash. Ugh, it's all very confusing.

No i am not on any medications at all. Yes always get a flush after eating something...very odd ! Thanks

I am just coming off HRT after 13 years and having hot flushes again and have noticed they come on mostly when I have eaten or drank something.I am not sure if the flushes could be connected to your dental problems but perhaps your doctor or dentist could advise you ?It is also quite common to worry / become anxious once the menopause / hormones change.

See another dentist asap! Doesn't sound right to me what your dentist is doing ... He is not addressing the problem at all!

She says she is treating my gum disease/peridontal disease but i just dont think professionallycleaning/root scaling teeth that have infection leaking is right...i have been back so many times to tell her how ill the infection is making me but she says puss between teeth and gums is just part of peridontal disease. Doesnt seem right to me as that is going down with everything i eat and drink ...never been so miserable

Get a 2nd opinion! That sounds awful what you are going through... It needs sorting asap with at least anti biotics to get rid of infection before they can start any other treatment. Hope you get this sorted pls go back and ask for a different dentist and demand to be seen its your right

Believe me, I'm no fan of dental-related issues, but I'm with TREVIS here: go see a different dentist and get some Antibiotics!!!

Read that bacteria associated with poor dental health can cause heart probs. Not scaremongering - I'm am truly dental-phobic, childhood experiences run deep! - but your dentist NOT YOU is making you feel rough!

Yes, cleaning will help, but like most diseases, this obvious infection needs treating too, surely?

Getting off the dental issue now, as I'll start to over-think about my own dental issues!!!

Eating, especially in a restaurant = bright red face. Had it for years. Not hot, just red. Wonder how much mine could be down to subconsciously feeling uncomfortable eating in public? Never felt outwardly bothered tho'??

First coffee of the day = whoooosh!!! Instant sweat, and I don't even get hot flushes just yet!!

Your experience may well have some bearing on just being good ol' fashioned Perimenopausal!

Maybe first call has to be to your GP. Kill two birds - they may prescribe something for your gum infection and the flushes.

If its at consolation, I put toothache right up there with labour pains, so you have my full sympathy sad

    Sx

Take yourself up to A&E now this is awful..... NO ONE should have put up with that!!! This is YOUR life you are messing with... Get another Doctor opinion immediately there are other ways of killing an infection if you can't have anti biotics... There are many options available to you so go fight for your right!

Sweetheart, I feel for you. But dental probs/ME aside, go chew your Doc's ear off about trying to help you with you Peri symptoms at least.

I'm 100% agreeing with TREVIS - A&E! Its not like me turning up: I'm what I'd call pretty healthy for this time in my life (not crowing, but i've never really been I'll, don't take meds etc) - just Peri odds n sods.

But me + your symptoms = think a doctor's help is for you Kiddo.

May also be that a hospital intervention might result in a referral to a specialised Dental Clinic based at a hospital (think King's College in London has a window early in the morning whereby you can just turn up and sit and wait for a few 'and hoc' appointments they offer. Excellent dental provision so I hear).

You sound like this is getting you down: that in itself is probably not good as that alone may have a knock-on effect for your ME

I went to A & E was turned away told its a dental problem and i need to go to the dentist as they dont have dentists in A & E. I am going back again to dentist this afternoon for the 30th time in 4 months...no kidding. Everything I eat everything i drink is causing a flush sweat.....surely menop would not do that ?????? Thanks I dont live in London, I have been to a dental clinic though and they also said same as my dentist, just keep on cleaning my teeth and having professional cleanings. The dentists just dont seem concerned about my mouth, not even the pus coming from my teeth (they say the cant see it but it comes out when i chew its disgusting). I feel suicicidal with all this , the load is too much, plus i cant take medications. I just dont know what to do where to go or who to see. Doctors just say I am nuts. Maybe I am . x

Well thats me done then, other than to say go tell your GP you feel suicidal; speak with your family or phone the Samaritans.  I'm sorry that not got a solution for you.

If you Doctor thinks you're "nuts", has he not suggested some psychiatric help for you???

      Good Luck

Sorry Shaznay didnt mean to sound ungrateful for your advice, i am just having a very low time at the moment. Its just sometimes i feel so ill i dont know what to do. I really wouldnt do anything like suicide, its hard when you tell the doctors how you feel and they just say you are "anxious" or "depressed". I do try to keep positive as much as I can. Last few months have been hard what with the menopause , dental problems etc.. Sorry again if you felt I was ungrateful ffor the advice x

You need to fight for help these days that's all we are saying. It's bang out of order what you are putting up with. What you have described to us is totally unacceptable .... You do not put up with poison in your system! It's not right! You need to go see other docs and continue to do so until you get the necessary help to make you better. Not all doctors are right!! It's your body and your right to make sure your wellbeing is in order the best possible! No matter if you have to scream and shout and cry then so be it we have all been there at some point so you go and demand some medicine to get you back on the road to good dental hygiene one step at a time! Then, deal with the flushes etc ok ... Keep us updated pls xx

Thank you trevis. Thats really nice of you x  I am going tomorrow to see a doctor/dentist at the hospital, they phoned with a cancellation (sorry if i already said that) so i am hoping that they can find out what is going with me. ME is very complex and its hard to know what is causing what. Be nice to get to the bottom of it all. Maybe I also need to see someone about the hormones too. Sorry again for my rant...its just hard x
