Erectile Dysfunction

I am 63 years old. About one year ago, I noticed that when erect, my penis was beginning to curve downward instead of staying straight. About that same time, I began having difficulty achieving an erection and then maintaining it. It continued to get worse and then about 6 months ago, I lost my erection while having sex which was very humiliating. I have not been able to get an erection since then. I used to have very strong erections and could last a long time. Since this came on so suddenly, what could possible be going on?

I'm 61, and although it gets erect often, it doesn't last. Medications may have more to do with it than age. But do check it out.

My Urologist went over my complete medical history with me including any medications I am taking (which is only a very small dose of blood pressure medicine daily, 5mg and supplements such as CoQ10 and Fish Oil. He then examined my penis to see if he could feel any abnormalities, which did not seem to be the case, and checked my Prostate which is normal. He suggested getting off the Viagra which I was only taking just prior to intercourse and instead, taking 5mg of Cialis on a daily basis. (Since I have been taking the Cialis daily, I wake up with very strong erections every morning which I can make last for up to 45 minutes by stroking my penis, but later in the day or evenings, I still have much difficulty getting and maintaining erections. So, mornings are definitely my best times). My Urologist also suggested blood work to check my Testosterone level and that shows that I have very high Testosterone. Normal is in the 200's and mine is over 1000. Next, I am going next week for a Dopler Ultrasound of my penis to look for blockages of blood vessels and he is also going to give me an injection to create an erection so he can check out that downward curvature. So, he is being very thorough. It's great having strong erections every morning but it really sucks that I cannot maintain my erection while having sex with my wife. So, I go back to the Urologist in two weeks to go over the findings of the Ultrasound and see what he suggests at that point. He did say there are a lot of options to help ED so I am encouraged somewhat by that. Surgery or a penile implant is the very last option so I am thankful he is not rushing into that!

Thanks for your reply Laurence. I bypassed my GP and went directly to my Urologist which I am so thankful I did. First of all, my GP is a woman and I didn't feel comfortable talking to her about this. Secondly, I knew she would refer me to a Urologist anyway. Since I already have a relationship with a Urologist (he removed a cyst from my testicles about two years ago) I wanted to go to him. Incidentally, he assured me that my surgery has no beariing on this ED problem whatsoever. Does the penis pump help you? My Urologist said that is one of the options that can help me. He said I use the pump to pump blood into my penis and then put a ring around the base of my penis to hold the blood in and thus maintain the erection until I am finished having sex. I go back to my Urologist next week for a Dopler Ultrasound of my penis to look for blockages of blood vessels and he is also going to give me an injection in my penis to create a strong erection so that he can examine the downward curvature. Then I go back to him in two weeks after that to go over all the findings and see what he suggests. I will let you know what happens. Maybe it will help you.

IN THE MORNING, LUNCH, EVENING MEAL, EVENINGS AND BEFORE I GO TO BED!!! SOMETIMES MORE!!!
PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON AND MAYBE YOU COULD HELP ME!!
OHH THE PUMP DEVICE.. WOW...NO IT DID NOT HELP ME.. ONE TIME I PUMPED TO MUCH AND HEY THE PAIN... NOT FUN... MY GP THINKS I HAVE BEEN SORTED... FAR FROM IT....

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Masturbating that often is unusual, but I'm not sure it can actually cause problems, and it certainly isn't going to turn anyone "into a little whimp". I suspect most or at least many single men that age masturbate more often than once every few days too.

hey Dean
i have a bend upwards and prior to this was diagnosed with Peyronie's disease after finding a lump in my penis, the disease bit makes it sound worse. unfortunately this is a side effect of the condition and this will also contribute to the ED. anyway information available on patient access if not then google it and possibly mention to your gp.
i went to see a specialist and he told me that some gp's dont even know it exists.
