Hi I'm new to this group but just wondered if I'm peri menopause as I missed a period completely last month and I started 3 weeks ago and no sign of stopping ! I'm exhausted and keep going dizzy ! I've just turned 50 and have quite a large fibroid on my right ovary , any help would be appreciated right now .

You’re 50, so yes, you are definitely peri. But because you have a large fibroid I think you should ring up your gyn and get it checked.

Everything started going downhill for me when I turned 50, just turned 53 and still getting messed up cycles.

    Hope you are ok!

It's horrible isn't it ? It really does affect everyday life , can't plan anything really and yes a trip to the doctors is a definite .

Also, you might want to get your iron checked, if you’ve been bleeding for three weeks it could cause anemia and thus make you exhausted and dizzy.

I have fibroids(yes plural, I have a rather large one in my uterus and on both ovaries).  My doc discovered them when I was 48, but said he didn't want to mess with them because I was so close to menopause and they shrink some after menopause. They never bothered me, but I did have some very heavy periods and large clots. I started taking a tablespoon of Blackstrap Molasses every day and Voila! Normal period! And they stayed normal until I stopped in 2010.  I still take it because it's a good source of iron. Hugs Paula, welcome to this crazy ride we call menopause.rolleyeseek

Where do I get this from please and did your periods last longer than normal ??

You can get black strap molasses at the grocery store. It’s good if your iron is low.

Probably best to mix it with water.

Yes they did last longer than normal sometimes 10 days. I can remember one that lasted 17 days. It wasn't heavy the whole time but I still had to wear a pad,  the first three days I was changing my super plus tampon every 45 minutes. I get the Blackstrap Molasses from Whole Foods. I forgot to tell you it MUST BE UNSULPHERED Blackstrap Molasses. I started taking it and my periods were five to six  days. A little heavy the first two days, then medium then, light, then gone. Some people can't stand the taste so they mix it with their coffee or some almond milk. I'm hardcore. I just take a tablespoon straight every morning.

I haven't got an answer as such but just wanted to say you are not alone. I am 45 and about 6 months ago I started spotting in between periods, especially after running. They found a small fibroid which they couldn't reach to remove properly. I have no pain but my periods which I always thought were heavy, are just now ridiculous and last 7-8 days. I get the flooding and clots and the lot and am scared to leave the house. Last month on day 7 I was meant to be enjoying a day out but instead spent most of it in McDonalds, making trips to the toilet every 10 mins as I was so bad. Later that week, I bought some Tena maxi pads which I now wear, just in case.

The only thing that I find helps is either taking Ibuprofen or the Transexamic Acid I was prescribed but scared to take until recently. This has brought me some relief this week but I'm scared that if I stop, the bleeding will return.

I hope you get sorted and we get through this horrid period of our lives soon x
