exercising while on dialysis

I have been on dialysis since January 2017 and had an AV fistula in November '16. Along with having Kidney failure I have chrons disease and need to take steroids for this. I have gained some weight since and would like to lose some weight. I'm playing safe just now and am walking for exercise. I think I want to do more now and wanted to ask, can anyone tell me if it's safe to go swimming or start running again. Lift some weights?

    Hi,

I was on PD for 2 years which is a little different but we both had holes right smile I had to cover my site with waterproof dressing to go swimming but could do it if I was careful.  I also did HIT training 3 times a week (I made myself do this and always felt better) You would probably be ok with the running, check about swimming with your team as you to may need to cover your site.  Weights is a different thing they may tell you it may damage your fistula due to the pressure dont do the weights thing unless you have the ok from your dr.  Walking at at fast pace everyday will do you good.  The only thing I would watch in hot weather is not getting dehydrated are you on fluid restrictions? drinking water is good for steroids weight but again if you have restrictions you need to stick to them.  I was on steroids due to a couple of infections and while I didn't put on any weight (I seem to do the opposite of what is expected for some reason) I got steroid tummy a little.  i got rid of this by cutting out carbs for a week, but again check with your team before any diet changes as my steroids were after transplant.  Hope this helps a little.
