Extreme IBS

hi justwanted to ask if anyone knows of anywhere that has info on extreme ibs, briefly, few years ago started getting unwell feelings after eating, over time less and less food would trigger it. then alternating bowel symptoms, nauseusness after eating, then the stomach cramps and pains, and my stomach producing gas at very fast rate, stomach feels like boiling kettle. ive had a year of tests now to rule out everything else. lost about 7 stone and am at point now where pretty much any food will trigger symptoms which all seem to react off each other. meds im on are tablet that makes anything go straight through stomach and very strong laxative drinks. im managing wieght now drinking complans and fortijuices, this way only couple symptoms are active, any food especially meat triggers all over a period of an hour or so, and i have to lay down final CT scan few weeks ago. met with consultant few days ago, this one was apparently to one the specialists go to when stumped. his final report is a rare and extreme case of ibs. he said it uncureable and permanent, and i wont work ever again. i now need to ask work to retire me on ill health. and wanted something to show that its real, as im sure they dont believe me, to be honest im finding it hard to believe. im only 47 so i really need to convince work to have any sort of future. i will have report from consultant, but will that be enough

The best I can advice is get a doctors note explaing the situation and get copies of as many medical documents as you can to support your case. Hopefully, it wont be too tough or stressful for you as im sure that wont help you symptoms at all. Good luck. smile

thanks, my own docs been great, so shes happy to even call somone if need be, havent seen report rom specialist guy yet.  it a strange condition, having loads of symptoms it seems most people have a few, but not that many, i found one site a forum where people had almost exact same, and majority had one food they could eat ok. i just aint found mine yet, better be something i like. stress is big trigger, but not working will help that one as i work or worked with violent kids with learning difficulties. i need to find something that i can do if not work, its a long time till im 65, dont think even i can play xbox that long

Yeah when i was at uni i was working part time too, its easier when I wasnt looking for full time work and traveling isnt good for me.  it wasnt so much the toilet issues with me but the crippling stomach cramps. Luckily im managing it a bit better now. Looks like you seem to have your ibs symptoms under control somewhat though and can lead a somewhat normal life with it so im glad somethings working for you. Good luck with your job and your symptoms smile

hi thanks for replies sry not been back sooner, last weeks been nightmare, new manager was sprung on me whos never met me before. arranged an occupational health review but said il health retirement wasnt even going to be on agenda to discuss, as her job was about getting me to go back to work. then told me to only go to office for meetings and not to talk to other staff or anyone senior to her. i know and been advised that she cant do any of this, but when HR told her retirement had to be on stage 2 agenda she said i was on a stage one, clever wording, HR said ok to her and left it. i am on stage one, but this OH is what informs stage 2 meeting when retirement must be discussed at least.actual pension fund themselves found out who i appeal to, wasnt even told i could. so i have email ready just need final report from consultant. and hope for best. i cant see why shes doing this as im asking to be dismissed, i just need them to admit its because of my health. aussiechick13 cant imagine going through this crap at your age, so get yourself as stress free a life as you can set up, stress is definately biggest factor,i lost more this week so am having to sit back, send appeal see what happens, ive added that i wont meet with that manager told then doc will write letter explaing why if need be. if i find anything that relieves any of this ill let you know.
