Failed hip scope - now talks of replacement

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi,

So I had a hip scope earlier this yr - I expected to make a very speedy recovery but 8 months on and I am worse than I ever was before surgery. I have pain daily and due for a second steriod injection in a week.

Post that and a scan the conversation with the consultant is going to be around a hip replacement - which scares me.

I wonder if anyone has experience a failed hip scope?

What pain levels indicate replacement? I have low level constant aches with sharpe pains - movement is really restricted and the most active I can be is walking - even than I dont walk normally.

I was grade 3 earlier this yr - how long before I get worse? What have other people experience?

Thanks!

I'm so sorry for your pain.  I am one year post op, and still in much more pain than I had before the hip replacement.  This has led to depression, and has me worried turning 47 next month.  I truly have no physical capabilities without the use of my cane. Even then I am in tremendous pain.

    Dear Emma,

Welcome to our hippies family ...I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain ...

I am not sure if I understand what a hip scope is ... from your question I am assuming that it is not Total Hip Replacement surgery and your counsellor is suggesting that you should get one ?

Pain levels are individual ..  I was diagnosed with severe Osteo-arthiritis and the pain was getting worse, gnawing and restricting mobility -

X ray showed that cartilage was gone and hip was bone on bone -

One thing we know is that it will not get better -

can you please give us a bit more information?

    big warm hug for now

A hip scope is a repair of the area - so labrum tear, impingement and cartilage damage, they were hoping I could have microfractures to stimulate cartilage growth but the cartilage was too damaged! - grade 3 at the time. At 33 and extremely active it was quite a blow.

I am just not sure if I am struggling to recover from damaged muscles, tendons etc from the surgery or if its the cartilage - its there all the time and can be quite acute... and nothing seems to ease it.

You see the surgeon - his solution is operation. You see a physio - her solution is muscle strengthening. So its difficult to feel I know where the pain is from and what the solution is?

Does grade 3 mean I am only going to progress to grade 4 and it only gets worse? So confused over here!
