Feeling excited 2nd THR

Posted , 8 users are following.

I had my LTHR done in December last year and it's absolutely wonderful.

I'm booked in for my RTHR on 19th August and am currently undergoing all the pre op tests.

I would like to hear from other double hippies as to their recovery rate. My first hip is being held up a bit because the other one is so painful, so that even after 7 months I still have to use a crutch outside when walking.

Very interested in the replies as I am two months behind you (Feb 2016 and September 2016).

Good luck - there are many of us on similar timelines. The forum should be humming!

It'll be interesting to see how we fare individually through the next one as we all recover differently.

I look forward to hearing your experiences as we go along the hobbedly path together ?? xx

Thank you Vanessa. That's what I'm banking on that my operated hip will give my second hip more support, so that I will find I easier.

    Hi Gwen,

How exciting, darling ...you are so ready, aren't you -

I had 2 THR surgeries 6 months apart and like you, recovering from 1st one was held back -

Recovery rate, as you know, is different for everyone - I am still recovering, so to speak - The pain was gone and I felt a lot more confident post-op 2nd one - you know already what you can expect and will be less fearful -

with this "confidence" I became cocky and started too early with walking unaided etc( Look mother!!! NO HANDS)... Well, unfortunately it doesn't work that way - your body really has to learn how to walk properly with 2 new hips - so yeah, niggles and discomfort in rest of body ---

Again, a very individual process -

The wait is almost over !!!

    big warm hug

You're right renee, I am so ready for this. I will take advice from you and not try to run before I can walk!

It has taken a good 6 months for my first hip to feel strong and part of me, so I don't expect the second one to be a lot different, although I'm hoping it will be easier.

Thank you and hugs to you xx

Hi Gwen, I am having my 2nd done on the 19th as well! We'll have to compare notes. My first was done May 9th and I'm walking on my own but my leg that needs to be done is holding me back. Although I'm nervous as I know what's coming, I'm anxious to get it done and get back to normal! Hope all goes well!

Good to hear from you fiona, what a coincidence!

I'm nervous as well but it's only a few hours of worry against years of pain, so it'll he good to get it over with.

I hope all goes well for you too and we'll compare notes on the other side.

      Best wishes, Gwen x

Hi Gwen, I can't reply on recovery rate for second hip, because  just like you I am getting ready to get my second hip replacement. I had rthr 8 weeks ago and am supposed to get my lthr the end of August. I also am being held up as far as recovery with the first thr because of pain in the other hip. I am walking with a cane and until I get the other hip replaced looks like that is about as good as it is going to get. Wishing you luck on your upcoming surgery. Many blessings....Barb

That's how I feel. My new hip is about as good as I can get it until my second one is done.

I hope you are able to have your hip done in August so that you can get on with the rest of your life comfortably.

    Hi gwen

Yup l had 1st lthr in december and 4 weeks later l fekt ready to get my other side done so much so l called my doctor and he said l will book you in for 15th feb

So had both done now and its true what they say it was completly diffrent from my 1st thr. The pain was diffent. Not as bad l would say and l could move my leg a lot easier right away. I got out of hospital a day earlier than 1srt one as my pt went so well.. although my recovery took longer. I had a lot of backpain which when l asked my doctor he said my body was readjusting to having 2 new hips my posture would be diffrent and my walking but again at 4 weeks l was great l started walking but then when l got home my knees were in pain my ankles were swelling l put it down to recovery. But it got worse so l went back and had my hips and knees xrayed.. i found out a few weeks ago that l need both knee's replaced so it eas nothing to do with my hips they have been great and l would not change them for anything. So go for it gwen you will not regret it. I would be desperate if l were you.

I am not looking forward to my knees my 1st one is on aug 16th but l hope l go on to say the same about them as l do abt my hips.

    Good Luck

    Laura

You have had a can of back luck to deal with. Compared to you, mine's a breeze!

Thank you for your positive reply though, I keep telling myself that the second will be easier because I have a good operated leg to rely on now, instead of the arthritic, painful lump of uselessness I had before.

You have given me hope and I will go into this with a strong positive attitude.

I wish you all the luck in the world for your knee op. Hope it goes well for you.

      Gwen xxz
