Feeling nervous returning to work.

Hi. I am almost 21wks post op now and I go back to work full time tomorrow. I work in a school as TA with children that have special needs, some with complex needs and difficult behavioural issues. I'm starting to feel really nervous about how I'll be. I'm sure I'll be ok but worry about if I'm not. I've done this job for 25yrs since leaving college and never done anything else. Can't imagine doing anything else but it has ran through my mind what I'd do if I'm struggling. Going part time is not an issue financially.
Within my class team I have no doubts about being supported. But within the senior ranks I'm not sure how understanding they will be. But I suppose I'm sure I'll soon find out.
I feel relatively well although my back is bothering me (old injury Not op related. I don't think anyways) but have been having some crampy pains in abdomine area this past week. No bleeding or anything. Just like twinges of a period pain beginning. Could it be scar tissue pulling?

It's difficult to know what could be causing the pain but if it's a period type of pain it could be hormonal. Have you been told you have scar tissue?

No I wasn't told I had any. I wasn't sure if it was from possible over stretching or overdoing it. I am on hrt so could that be giving me symptoms like a period pain. X

It's not inevitable women have scar tissue as a result of surgery and HRT can give symptoms of a period. Regarding you returning to work my GP wrote instructions on my return to work certificate stating what you can and can't do and how long you can't lift etc. This is the advantage of the certificate now and in your case it would be very useful because it outlines quite clear how long you shouldn't lift for amongst other things. At least then your employer is obligated to ensure you don't do anything you shouldn't do. Hope it all goes well tomorrow and always remember you've had major surgery x

Thanks matron. I was signed off work in July. I knew I was going back to work in sept and didn't want another 6wks on my record when it was my holidays. So not sure I'd be able to get one of those certificates now but if I have any problems I know HR were very supportive when I spoke to them. The woman I saw was an ex nurse so understood my surgery. So I won't have any hesitations about contacting them if necessary. X

Hi Fi
Hopefully at 21 weeks you'll be ok but just listen to your body and if something hurts or is too heavy, don't do it. It's good that your occ health nurse is helpful so just be careful with yourself. The last thing any of us want is to have repeat surgery.
Wishing you good luck
Sue x

My job sounds quite similar. I went back to work at 12 weeks and was extremely nervous at that point. However as time has gone on my confidence has grown and i feel much happier. I stick to the m/h guidelines and try not to worry and listen to my body. Wishing you all the best.
