I had a right hip replacement in June 29 2016 . I end up with femoral nerve damage ,, first my leg 50 lbs could not move at 4 weeks that has subsided and now can lift it with my hand to place it  numbness below the knee to to top of the thigh , stinging , and electrical shocks and movement in the leg , a feeling of swelling and hat feeling that I ice , ice ,  when standing I can kick my leg around freely . If I sit I can not lift my leg or kick my leg out . I have started pt out side of the house and forced m self to drive to get their to get help. Using both legs to drive . My question ? Has anyone one with femoral never damage  healed a 100 % of surgery and got their life back to hike and do all they wanted in life .. Hopefully in NY

That he is sorry and doesn't know how this happen . A number of things . A clamp to tight, the spinal , the catheter , just the stretching if that muscell to long during surgery . He wants me to Excerise that muscell , pt . I have come along ways with it since surgery. I am using a cane and feel safe "?" But the numbness is their knee to top of thigh , the stillness in the morning is pretty bad and it's a bit painfull and feels hot . Once I take a tramadol , shower and movement I feel better . I want a 100 % . I just did the pool and it's feels good right know , just a tight tired feeling no stinging at all .

you are actually doing pretty good at 6-7 weeks post-op -

and you will feel soreness and discomfort for some time coming - so many other parts of your body are involved in this journey - correct posture, balancing, learning to walk and sit again -

tender loving care and gentleness to yourself ...

    Hi Georgia,

I'm also a femoral nerve casualty, and would also like to hear from anyone who has recovered 100%. It's been 12 months for me now, and it has been a roller coaster of emotions and frustration. But I have improved so much in the past month. I started cycling as soon as possible- after a couple of months if I remember. Bought an exercise bike first, then practiced in an empty caravan park before venturing on the road. I can now (for at least 3 months now) cycle as well as my friends - up steep hills, although I can't pedal with my bum off the seat - the muscles aren't there yet.

Walking more than 50 metres is still painful, but mostly because of chronic arthritis in the other knee and hip... I can go up and down steps fairly well with the 'femoral' leg - slowly, but don't have to rely on handrails now. Just started being able to get off chairs without using my arms - big big step! It feels so good once the improvement is that noticeable. But I did go through very low patches - and I did fall backwards on my kitchen floor in the early stages - avoid falling! My knee just snapped bent like a penknife - don't know what damage I did but must have done something. Anyway, exercise your quads and VMO muscle as much as possible - mine just vanished and it's taking a long time to rebuild them. But hang on in there - I still get the electric shocks - on nerve pain pills for that, and am still numb on the inside leg, but can feel much, much more than I did 6 months ago.

    We will get there!

You sound like your doing really well cycling . Don't get me wrong I do know your struggles as I am feeling it .. I am a go get ER like you at least you sound it . I my self have come far in the last 5 weeks . I have not stopped doing moving . Slowly of corse . I am now this week on a cane safely I feel with out my leg giving out . So that musscell is getting stronger . Good sign . I did the pool yesterday out side 72 degree that cool water felt so good on my leg and excerise was easy . I am hopeful of a full recovery but then part of me says what if . Then what I read were people do not full recover . It's important to hear from others and their stories good or bad . On this site I am not finding many with fermoral nerve damage . I hear from people who " don't have it " not understanding how they can weight in on this if they never experience this .. Numbness in leg below the knees to thighs , can't bend the knee, swelling , at least it feels it . Very hot feeling , electrical shocks and stinging .

I could not straighten my both knee for last 3 months , I had medicine overdose and after tested it has been found that I have femoral neuropathy in my both lags. I am going through physiotherapy and medicine from neurologist , I can walk little bit now but still I can not straighten my knee .

Want to know is anyone here who is recovered  100% from Femoral Neuropathy and get back normal life ? Is Femoral Neuropathy is curable? I am very frustrated  …How long does it takes to recovered ?
