Fever Post-Embolization?

I am 35 years old, no kids. I was diagnosed with fibroids last year during a routine well woman exam. An MRI with contrast this year showed that I had over 30 fibroids, largest 19 cm, uterus the size of a six month pregnancy.

I had UFE on November 18th. I am really struggling. My pain was poorly controlled in the hospital, but I went home after two days on Cipro, Oxy(something), and Naproxen. First week was painful, I slept a lot. I had very bad constipation (still do actually), so I had to stop the opiod medication after the first five days.

The first time I spiked a fever (100.4) it was five days after the procedure. My doctor was unconcerned.

Then, twelve days after the procedure the fever returned and now it won't go away. At this point, I have been running a fever every single day for almost two weeks. My temperature fluctuates daily between 99.8 to 102.5. I am nauseated, terribly fatigued, and I have night sweats. I have a stabbing pain in my lower left abdomen and a throbbing pain in my lower right abdomen. I can't eat. I can't work. I feel like I have the flu but worse than the flu and it won't go away.

My doctor remains unconcerned - they just keep saying that this is normal - but I have honestly never felt worse in my life. I had a pelvic/abdominal CT with contrast last week that came back fine (begged for an MRI but I got no where). The doctor's restarted me on Cipro and gave me Torodol for pain and Zofran for nausea. The Torodol helps but the Zofran is useless.

Even if this is normal, I am terrified that something is wrong. I don't have kids so UFE was my only shot to have kids one day. I am interested in other people's experiences, because I really don't know how to get through this.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Lilika

?Sounds terrible, hope things get better for you soon.  It doesn't sound normal?! I am similar to you in that my uterus is the size of a 6 month pregnancy and I am wanting to have the UFE. I also have no kids.  Good luck, hope you get some answers from others.

    ?Sending you healing vibes.

Prayers for healing for you and relief from the pain. I had my Embolization on 12/12/16. I was in pain for 5 days. The Toradol and Percocet didn't work well for me but the doctor didn't give me anything different...when I called on day 2 and complained about the pain they just told me to decrease the hours between taking the pills. I was out of pills on day 5 and had to use 800 ml ibuprofen. I started feeling better each day after day 3. I was looking "the next day". I can truly say that I feel so blessed to not be passing fibroids today. My lower abdomen is just a teeny bit sensitive and I spot just a little, but I feel soooo much better. Every case is different and that's why I like reading about experiences in this forum. I hope they figure out why you're still suffering. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I find these forums so comforting, because you find out the things your doctor won't tell you. It's less scary when you know you're not the only one. I'm not one to share my personal experiences publicly, but these forums helped me so much, I want to help someone else if I can.

Update: Things got much worse before they got better. Eventually I had to be hospitalized for about five days. I had every kind of imaging and blood test known to man, but everything came back negative. The doctors slammed my system with antibiotics and IV fluids as a precaution. I got out of the hospital a few days before Christmas. It took another three weeks for the fevers to go away completely. Plus I developed C. Diff (and a terrible yeast infection) from all the antibiotics, so it was an ordeal.

Things got back to normal about the second week of January. I lost 21 pounds when I was sick because I couldn't eat, so that's was weird. I was weak for a few weeks, but I feel like I'm 100% now. My period came back in the last week. It was very light and only lasted four days.

I have had a lot of discharge and pass small pieces of fibroids several times a day. The discharge started out watery and odorless, but in the last week the discharge has become thick, yellowish and pungent. The fibroids went from a creamy pink color to gray, pink whiteish hue. I'm guessing the change in odor is due to the necrotic fibroids sloughing off. I'm not worried yet, but I did let my radiologist know.
