Fibromyalgia + Costochondritis oh what joy!!!

I've had Fibromyalgia for the last 10 yrs, & I was managing the pains with a very active working life. Although literally I would crawl through the door at the end of the day in agony & feeling so very poorly. The way I used to deal with this was to put on my trainers & force myself out for a short run, which got everything moving & made me feel a lot better.

After picking up a virus the end of December last year, I began with horrendous chest pains, breathing probs & horrid pains in my ribs. After being admitted twice into hospital, having all kinds of tests, aswell as ECG....everything was fine. 6 wks later, finally a diagnosis from a Rheumatologist of Costochondritis. Hurrah a diagnosis, oh it'll clearup on its own....mmm 8 months later & the pains i have experienced have been excrutiating, but I keep on smiling through. My way of dealing with this is to do Yogalates, the thoracic breathing really helps this condition. Also gentle Swimming, & the use of an Infrared lamp when the pain is just too much to cope with. It takes the edge off it. I also see a Physio on a regular basis.

I'm thankful for each & every day, Staying positive as I know there are people suffering more than myself with other illnesses & injuries.

Just gotta keep that chin up & keep Smiling on through! Sending <3

I used to work alot and push through it physically, not doing running but serious DIY (hey, I got an extended house for it).  However, I have Fibromyalgia and ME for about 21yrs and I am now in a poor way. Low level DIY rarely, mobility scooter, walking sticks, crawling about, dragging myself along the carpet.  Is it because I didn't pace myself over all those years? My excuse was we didn't know what it was. Would I be like this if I'd been more balanced with the rest and physical?  I agree Fibromyalgia needs you to keep moving, it loves for you to keep pushing it. However, if pacing it would of prevented me being like this - I would of paced!!!  Be careful just in case in the long run you end up seriously physically different to the way you are now. Take care.

Nice to hear from you Julie, so sorry you are in such a bad way now.

It really is rubbish when you have been active & able then it's all taken away for you as such. This happened to me 3 years ago when I had a very bad ankle break, which has put an end to my running & working career. Never mind acting on the stage doing musicals. I am lucky if I can manage to do just one daily activity atm, whether that be the food shop or a trip to the bank. I have to be very strict with myself these days, so if I go for a gentle swim, then that is my activity for the day, I have found that my yogalates is really helping to keep things moving very gently. I too struggle to walk distances & I am needing to use a stick more for support these days.....ha & I'm only hitting 40 this year!

I have had to learn the hard way, & I have a very supportive husband who keeps a very close eye on me, making sure I don't over do things.

      Take care of yourself smile

I'm only 36, at this rate my husband will be reserving a place for me in an old peoples home by the time I'm 40 lol, he says an 80 year old can move better than me sometimes. Bless him.  He's a great support along with the kids although they are only young. You take care too (oldy)x

Sending Gentle Hugs back to you CrazyDaisy......aswell as too everyone else. Just wondering how everyone has been today, has it been a "good" day or a "bad" one? I have had a good one, started the day with a gentle swim for 20 mins (lunchtime!) Then met up with a friend for a quick coffee, lovely to see her, but hugged me a little too hard....which I am now suffering for now. Bless her, she's realised straight away, but it was a little late then...the damage had been done ooops! Home & tablets, lots of layers this evening, it's feeling a tad chilly me thinks! Have a cosy evening everyone, keep those pains at bay. Have fun smile

Started off thinking it was a good day, I'm off work this week so got up late, had coffee and caught up on some TV. I sat there thinking that I feel ok, I'm gonna have a good day. So I walked to the local shop for some things to make dinner for my husband and I put on a load of laundry, then I thought b!*$&ks I've done too much, spent the afternoon tired and achey, currently running a hot bath to soak in, hubby will have to help me in and out though, bless him.

See what comes of trying to be a good wife?

      xxx
