first outbreak or not?

It started on a saturday morning 10 days ago. I noticed three small bumps that looked like infected ingrown hairs. I normally shave everything so on Sunday night I shaved again. Water from the shower made it burn. The three spots were on my scrotum and base of my penis. I went to an urgent care unit and had blood drawn for a complete std panel. Since I had shaved, the bumps were now scabs and nothing to culture.  Every test came back negative.  But now there were more blisters. Every time one would burst two or three more would form. The original three are still scabbed. There doesn't appear to be any blood. Just clear liquid. But it seems wherever that liquid contacts my scrotum or penis a new blister forms. Is this right? Does this sound typical for an initial herpes outbreak?  And if it is why would my blood test be negative.  I call my doctors office but no one returns my calls. I need advice from someone with this experience.

It takes around 6weeks for bloodwork to come back positive

How could that be? They drew my blood and 5 days later they said everything was negative. They called out about six different tests. The main ones I was listening for HSV 1 & HSV 2 were both negative.  I understand now that its possible to get a false negative result. I'm waiting on the results from a culture performed om Saturday.  In the meantime,  the waiting is killing me.  Also everything I read says the initial outbreak is bilateral.  But my outbreak is strictly on my left side. Any thoughts?

That's herpes no doubt. Your infection is new, my test came back negative too, swab was positive. When the infection is new, your body has not produced antibodies yet. This is why you test for everything three months later. I tested 3 months later and that time my blood test came back positive. You need to go to urgent care and start meds. Take 3xs daily vit C dose & 3000mlgs lysine. Do not scratch or rub, you will spread it. Take warm baths w Epsom salt as frequent as possible

I suppose I'm in denial. Searching for a shred of hope that it's anything but something incurable. I have a weakened immune system already from diabetes.  Culture results won't be back until Friday.  I'm as scared for my previous partners as I am for myself.  I feel like I've cheated them all out of a normal life.

Don't worry, I think we all go through that, bit your ob is rather minimal, especially if you have a weakened immune system. I had a terrible ob for 3 weeks w severe neuropathy and I learned a couple months ago I have autoimmune disorders, so my immune system is compromksed as well. Your swab test is sensitive and unless caught in a certain window, basically if they blistered and ulcerated, they will come back negative as well. 5 days is just not long enough for your body to build antibodies. You don't know if they didn't give it to you. The last person you were w may have given it to you. Don't beat yourself up

Thanks for your kindness.  I got divorced 2 yrs ago and since then I've been completely reckless in my sex life. Of course none of 20 something women showed any symptoms of any std. The thing is, I am so oral that I would've thought I would have at least goyten a fever blister. But ive never had one. Coincidentally,  my daughter who is 7 does have a cold sore on her lip. My ex wife gets them occasionally.  So the irony is that I spent 15 yrs with someone who has a form of herpes and I never got it and I spend one or two nights with someone and get genital herpes

I understand your frustration. I've always be careful, o didn't have sex for over two yrs when I finally was w someone who lied to me and got it after not having sex that long 5 months ago. I was devastated. Most kids catch hsv1 from their parents. I got it on my mouth at 22 from an ex. It sounds like you have hsv2 if you never had a cold sore on the mouth. Don't forget, they say 80-90% of people w genital herpes are asymptomatic. So they're unknowingly spreading it around.  Us having compromised immune systems resulted in being symptomatic. I hope uoi have a good support system and have someone to confide in.

Something that just occurred to me. When I was a kid, I had chickenpox.  I've always heard about shingles. And I know its just another type of herpes. Shortly after posting the original post, I started noticing a shooting kind of pain. It has gotten progressively worse. Could it be shingles instead of std herpes?

I don't know why the medical community is so uninformed about what herpes does to the nerves and they they thinn only shingles does that, but it's simply not true. I got neuropathy on both buttock and back of legs, w shooting pain to location of sores, to feet, in vagina and rectum (and I've never had anal sex) so bad, I had to go to the ER and get on nerve pain meds. I've known others who had nerve pain w hsv2 as well. If you just google neuropathy from hsv 2 you will find stuff and forums of people talking about it
