On the 19th July 2018 I had my Mirena Coil removed after having it in for just over 3 years.
I had it put in because I really didn't want to get pregnant and other methods of contraception with lots of hormones in them made me feel depressed, so the Mirena coil felt like the last option. I was also having seriously irregular periods and when I got told the Mirena coil can stop your periods, I was sold. Alas, I continued throughout the 3 years of having my coil to still have mega irregular periods. If anything they were worse. Some months I wouldn't have a period at all, some months I would be on for a couple of days then a week later would come back on again, some were light some were heavy...you get the jist. My periods felt COMPLETELY random.
I decided to have the coil removed so I could see what my periods were doing naturally. When I had it taken out I was actually on my period and the doctor told me that I should be prepared in case I have a heavy period for the next few days. However my period remained to be quite light.
I came on my next period on 16th August (which is the most "on time" my period has been in a long time) and not only is it a ridiculoysly heavy and clot-filled period (sorry I know that's grim) but I have had such a low mood since the day of coming on my period. I feel emotional, really exhausted and like I have no energy and just a general feeling of wanting to curl up on the sofa with a blanket. I also found that I was experiencing symptoms that I used to get before having the coil fitted, such as very tender breasts on the lead up to my period and cramps.
I suppose my question is, is it normal to have a really horrible period where you feel low after you have been on contraception for a long time?
