First post & first herpes outbreak!..

Hello scorpio,

Can't really comment as I can't wee anyway!! At least not without certain aids ie... I self cathertarise every time I need to go, which isn't much fun at the best of times, but is a bit more uncomfortable with than usual since I've had this thing!  I'm not sure if this can/will happen to me, but going by what you say there seems to be a possibility, but if it does enter my urethea then I'm in for a seriously uncomfortable time!!... fingers xxxx on that one. 

I've had continious pain from various health issues, including rheumatoid arthritis, for many years so am sort of accustomed to it. What's recently happening with me though is that I'm getting one ailment after another and with this thing hitting me, especially just before christmas, has really cheesed me off.!! It's got to the stage now that I'm wondering what's going to hit me next.......

I've just had a warm, not hot, bath, which has helped a wee (no pun intended) bit..will try some salt in there next time. Thanks for replying, there's some comfort speaking to others with the same problem.  I hope the darned thing eases for you soon, and you too enjoy chritmas as best you can.

Therein lies the problem.. I need to be very careful with what meds I take, even some natural remedies apparently, because of the type of meds I'm already on. As mentioned, I'm taking strong immune suppressors to supress my RA (rheumatoid arthritis) so not too sure what my rheumatologist will think about me trying to raise my immune system. I will definitely look into the remedies you mention, at the very least.. the lemon balm should be fine.

As you can see I'm not in a good place to get infections or viruses of an sort. Don't want to be negative but knowing my luck I'm going to find this thinfg difficult to shift.

Oh, best mention that I'm incredibly slow at typing so please bear with me should I cross post and allow for typos.

A very long time ago, so I'm confident I haven't passed on the virus to anyone.

I had a serious word with my GP after he prescribed the wrong meds to me some time ago. Since then he seems to be more aware of my conditions and what he can and can't give me. When I more recently did start to remind him about giving me the correct type of antibiotics for an infection I had, he butted in to say that he knew the score!..so my little chat with him seems to have done the trick. Didn't think to ask him this time round as I already knew of people with RA taking antivirals. It was only earlier this evening when I did some research on herpes that I noticed the kidney thing. As  you say, I'm also not at all sure that an enlarged kidney constitutes as kidney problems that is why I queried it here. Though on hindsight, maybe it is not appropriate to seek advice like that here. 

 I won't take antinflammatories because of a heart condition, but will give the vaseline a go after I've posted.

Lysine will not effect any meds you are on. It is what is in chicken, fish, etc.. But it makes a huge difference w outbreaks taking it. Make sure to use Epsom salt for your baths and not regular salt. I understand how you feel, I've been recently diagnosed w a couple autoimmune disorders right after I got this and have had surgeries for another alilment the last few yrs and I'm young. I to wonder what next, but you can't think like that. It's putting it out to the universe to happen. You have to tell yourself you're taking your body back and now you need to make your life about working out and eating healthy. Stay away from sugars and caffeine.. Causes outbreaks and so will nuts... Take 3000mlgs of lysine during outbreaks and 1000 daily when not breaking out. I also take vit c, 3xs the daily recommended dose

Thanks for that feelbroken. That lysine sounds really beneficial, will pick some up along with some vit C ASAP.

I normally don't think as negatively as I potrayed here, but I've had a really rough time for most of 2014. Then finally after starting new RA meds, and experiencing a significant improvement in both pain and mobility over the last 3 months, I then  go and get type 2 herpes, and all in time for christmas too!  Guess, it's just got to me a bit at the minute but it won't last that's for sure.  

Anyway, thanks again for your help, 'tis much appreciated. The alarm clock's just gone off to remind me to take an antiviral.. remembering to take one 5 times a day ain't easy, especially when one's getting on a little.

Just been thinking (which makes a change) about you saying that caffeine causing outbreaks. Until recently I've been a tea drinker with only the very occasional cup of coffee. However,this last month or so I've got a taste for strong coffee and have been drinking lots of the stuff. I wonder if this could have triggered the outbreak, or at least played a part in it? Won't be drinking any more of the stuff and will stick to tea from now on....

No need to apologize or feel bad about feeling down and being negative. You have every right to feel the way you do a d deserve all the time you have to grieve it, just know when to recognize that you're past grieving and just staying in a rut. It's a crappy situation and it takes some adjustment.. Believe me.. I felt the same way. I drink coffee anyway, but the trigger for me is not taking my meds before I go out drinking late. Usually it's when I get drunk on red bull, vodka w cranberry. I'll break out w no symptoms. If I take it before I go out, I won't break put.  I just would hold off on that stuff till you get it under control ams reintroduce it sloy back to your diet. Merry Christmas!

I used to be a regular drinker, bit of a party animal to be honest, but eased right off approx 2 years back, but still enjoy the odd tipple. Picked up a bottle of jack daniels for xmas but looks as if it'll have to wait some. I really should  be careful with alcohol because of the RA meds, but I ignored that for 8 years and suffered no adverse sideeffects..guess I got lucky as some people on RA meds experience liver problems.

OB has got a bit worse today but I'm not feeling too bad at the mo. A few nice xmas presents from my largish family helped cheer me up. Great xmas dinner too!

Yeah, it gets worse before it gets better. Hope you've tried some of my suggestions. Let me know how they work out for you. Glad you're feeling a bit more optimistic and I don't think a drink kr two will hurt just not a lot since alcohol does suppress the immune system. I don't have family, so Xmas is just another day for me. Glad you're enjoying yours.

I thought yesterday was feeling okay but today I feel really bad. Had struggled in bath. Don't know how I managed to cook Christmas dinner. Well my mum here but she does not know about this.

Well I did have a bit of this mixed berrie cider.

I probably make myself worse. I really not been to toilet. Normally have weak bladder. Had a bath earlier that was really bad trying not to scream. 

I do hope you feel better soon. Is this making you feel drained?  Enjoy rest of your day ok.

Sorry to hear things are not so good scorpio. It must be awful trying to hide it from your mum. I understand how you feel, but many parents, especially mums, are more undersanding and sympathetic than you think. Chances are that she'll be upset that you have been unwell and struggling without telling her.

I've become feverish now.. recurring spells of being hot then cold & shivering, also having headachhes. I should have injected myself with immune suppresing drugs today but have decided not to do it so I can boost my immune system to  try to combat this bl***y thing more effectively. It's the usual practice when folk with rheumatoid arthritis taking immune suppressing meds who pick up an infection or virus if it's a nasty one. But I'll need to phone my rhematology team on monday to check if it's ok to do that. Trouble is the last time I stopped my meds, my arthritis went beserk and I ended up with acute pain in multiple joints. After a couple of weeks without meds I could bearly move from room to room, so I'm praying this thing will clear up soon. As you can tell there could be fun times ahead for me. Still trying to keep my chin up though and trying not to worry about that 'til it happens

Hi Tony, how are you? Feeling awful today shivering but aching all over. Was out in cold today made me worse. 

Hi scorpio, sounds as if you've got it worse than me!..you've probably got a  fever too. Feeling better today..headach & fever has lifted, still stinging though. Worst place is my penis.. I have two sores there which are troubling me quite a bit. It's not so much the stinging caused by the sores that's troubling me, but I get a horrible nerve pain sensation in my leg from the knee down. My GP told me that this because the nerve at my penis connects to the nerve in my leg. Thankfully, it only occurs intermittently and in just one leg, so guess I can be thankful for that!
