Fluoxetine

Been taking them for 2 days and I feel absolutely horrendous, like I have the flu so I’ve stopped them. I was sceptical about taking them in the first place as haven’t been diagnosed with Anxiety.  How long to get out my system? I’ve had 2x 20mg tablets. I couldn’t sleep last night because every time I would fall asleep I would jump and wake up. With a 1 and a half year old I would like to feel more able soon 😞

They won't even be in your system yet don't worry they take ages to have any effect

I was okay, wouldn’t say anxious to be honest, just worried about a few things.

They start having an affect after about a month because it takes a while for them to get into your system and get used to them. I felt a bit ill for the first few days but then I was fine. And Fluoxetine is usually for Depression and OCD anyway, it's not really used for Anxiety

Yeah that’s why I don’t really want to take them. Just feeling so rough. 😞

Jess, I had a 26 month old, & 3 month old. I too, was debilitated by the end of day 1. Day 2, I had to get my husband to take off work. Literally couldn't function. Flu like symptoms, extremely fatigued, I can't even describe that hell. I eventually was able to get on it, the symptoms were the same. After 8 weeks, I felt worse than before I started 20mg ot prozac. This drug was definitely not for me. By the looks of it, a lot of people have terrible side effects. As a mom, & dealing with MDD, PTSD, I am already tired.. I had much better success with Wellbutrin. I also will say, I am not on any medication presently. I am terrified to try anything else after what I went through with Prozac. I hope you feel better soon. Good luck, sweetheart.

I took 20mg for 8 days and had to stop. It was horrible. I was so anxiety ridden and depressed I wanted to die. I didn’t sleep AT all for days. To me it wasn’t worth it. I stopped them immediately and it took about a week to feel like myself. The anxiety I suffered was nothing like being on this medication. It was a bad experience for me. I don’t take anything now and am much better. Good luck to you!

Hi Jess,  The first 3-4 weeks (for me anyway) was/is a complete battle.  But at week 4 it started to let up.  Maybe your doc can prescribe something short term to help you cope with the initial onboarding of the med.  Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
