Fluoxetine after 18 months

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone reads these forums much thesedays, as the last post was in November last year!

Anyway, i've been on Fluoxetine for 18 months , mainly for OCD but also for general depression and anxiety. Has anyone found after taking it for over a year that they're not sure if the effects of it wear off quite alot? Like your body has got used to it and it's not as effective as at the start? I am on 40mg after starting on 20mg, so my dose is about average i think.

I'm tempted to maybe try another medication to see if it helps more with my anxiety. But also realise the one i'm on now might be helping more than I think.

Any thoughts/responses would be great :-)

Thanks

Matt

I have been on Fluoxetine for some time and found it worked so well where nothing else really had . Like you though I did feel that after a while I did not seem to get the same benefits . I found that taking less for a while worked better than taking more . However after a while I needed to go back to the normal dose . For me it means juggling the dose sometimes . I wouldn`t recommend this for everyone and I`m not sure all doctors would aprove but it has worked well for me and kept me well .

    Hi Matt

I know what you mean by a quiet forum. I still look on it most days only to find nothing new. I've been on 40mg flu for over 2 years now (was originally on 20mg). Although everyone is different, i think it is probably doing more for me than i think. The illness still trips me up from time to time and i sometimes get anxious about the length of time i've been on it for but its a means to an end. Personally, i wouldn't change to another med as one would have to go through all the side effects again. You could always revisit your doc to discuss. I'll help if i can.

    Best wishes

Hi, I've been on this med for approx 6 months now 60mg, i was previously on Citalpram? for approx 1 year but didnt feel much benefit so asked the dr to swap, Im now getting to feel as these to arent helping much. I also take diazipan 2mg up to 3 times a day. Im on these med as I had cancer 2 years ago and got quite down, the cancer has returned again so im back in the doom and gloom of things. Ive no idea if im feeling any benefit from these tablets either, but it took a while to get used to them as i suffered the sickness side effect and dont fancy having to go throu any other side effects with new drugs. So, along with you guys, ive no idea if they help or not. xx

    Hi everyone,

    Thanks for the replies :-)

I've been reading up on different medications for anxiety and depression, and there are so many different types , it can be a bit mind boggling!

Fluoxetine seems to be one of the most popular and does seem to be one of the more effective ones.

Has anyone on here been on a few different anti-depressants apart from Fluoxetine? And what did they think of them?

I've read that Citalopram is another similar one to Fluoxetine, but "little feathers" you said it wasn't effectivve for you?
