Fluoxetine for depression

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hello - would like to know what time of day  people take their fluoxetine please.   I was taking 20 mg, my doctor has increased it to 40 mg and since I always took mirtazapine in the evening, that's when I now take the fluoxetine.   However, reading up on the drug, it says it can cause insomnia (which I do suffer from).   Am wondering - should I take them in the morning - the instructions don't actually say.

Thanks Madeleine.

    Hi Madeleine,

i was taking it in the evening but just switched to the morning. Lots of people suffered with insomnia with Prozac so If you already are I would switch to the morning to take it.

    Good luck

I take my 40 in the morning. I had so much energy when I started mine I couldn't sleep much at. But now three weeks into the fourty mg I am sleeping much better. I think your body will adjust either way. Years ago I took mine at night and had less side effects. I should of did that this time cause mine are bad.

      Hi Hope,

How are you doing? How is the anxiety?

How far along on the Prozac are you now?

As of right now my anxiety is def less. I have been having vision issues but I have been tapering off the xanax and I think it's withdrawal symptoms. I want to see if I can stand not taking it. Today I only took half of a .25. Dosent sound like much but my body is really sensitive. I hope that the withdrawal goes away fast. I am on week 7 now. How are you?

I'm at 2and 1/2 weeks. I'm struggling with the anxiety and nausea and depression.  I'm still occasionally getting thoughts of suicide but it's only when the anxiety etc. is really bad.  My psychiatrist started me on Lamotrigen 25mg this week. So we will see what that does. When did your anxiety start getting better?

Im just so exhausted by all this and so down.

Im trying to think positive but it's difficult.

      I feel alone and scared.

I've been taking mine with the xanax. That helped aLot. It was around week four I noticed a diff. Don't just sit around. It does not help. Force yourself to exercise a little. Trust me it helps even when you don't want to do it. God will help you but you have to do your part. Don't be give up. It will get better. I promise. I was vomiting every five min and crying like crazy before I started my meds. Hang in there.

I started in the morning but it made me incredibly drowsy (not sure if its just the start up side effects). I now take mine at night, which seems to work better but does not solve the insomnia problem!

Hello!  So you'll notice that if you take it in the morning you'll be incredibly drowsy and yawn a lot, but then in the evening you can't sleep!  I don't know why this is, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter what time you take it,  you could take it in the morning and still have insomnia,  this is just because it stays in your blood for such a long time that once it's completely built up in your system, it really doesn't matter

Hi - thanks to everyone for their advice.   At the moment I'm trying a compromise - 20 mg in the morning and 20 at night.   We'll see what happens!

    Take care

    Madeleine.
