FLY to FLA at Easter Sunday

Dear Friends, I made really detailed and  long investigation  about treatment  of  similar signs of BPH as I  have. My prostate is just  50 ml (grams),,  but with big median lobe ,which blocks bladder neck. This  causes  nearly  full retention,  sleep shortage,  nocturia, and  in time  the necessity of CIC-  self cathing.  Pls note  PAE in case  of big median  lobe has  poor  effects.  I passed it last April  . After few months  of symptoms relief,  the problems returned with bigger intensity.  So I lost one year time.   Yes all we  have some options : TURP,  GL, HOLEP,  open prostatectomy ...new methods as Urolift,  REZUM and FLA.   It seems that for big median  lobe is best  REZUM  and FLA . This is based on my long investigation and consultations with  many patients  and some doctors.  REZUM is  cheaper, probably covered by insurance  , but still  more random  method in comparision  with FLA.

US  insurance unfortunatelly plays no role for me , I'm  European citizen.

After detailed analyses of my problem  - 3T MRi scannes, TRUS, PSA,  PVR, e.t.c.  I decided for FLA  with full confidence to Dr. K   I'm flying  to USA  next Easter Sunday  on the  route  Vienna - Istanbul - Houston . Thank you very much for all  advises and help.  Good luck and strong hope and faith  to all of us - suffering men . Stan

Stan, when went in for 2nd fla prostate was 30 grams and now about 25. About 3months ago psa was 1.9 going to have it rechecked in about 2 months. Cant remember other numbers. 2fla has done better. Good flow now and mostly no hesitation. Still have a little bladder pain, but thinking i need to retrain bladder by way of holding my pee longer.

      Been just over 8 weeks.

    Urolift = Nightmare.

    DO NOT DO IT!!!

My condition is WORSE than before the procedure. Now my new Urologist says I am faced with laser surgery to correct but i will have to self catherize DAILY for the REST of my life or scar tissue will reform.

    DO NOT DO IT !!!

    SAY NO TO UROLIFT

Im so sorry  Justin. You are fully right. in addition  Urolift is contraindicated for big median lobe  ( my case ). Do you have MR scan to see in details what happened ?  Pls do it.  and maybe FLA is the right method for you, too.  Take care, Stan

Hi Justin,  I am sorry but if I were you I would email Dr Karamanian in Houston Texas see his web site, and though I cannot speak for him I am confidant he will be happy to hear your case and offer suggestions to help you, if you do, have your medical details ready for him to consider, he is very knowledgeable and equally brilliant and best of all very considerate, he may surprise you with a way out.

I traveled from New Zealand to get him to do FLA for me and darn glad I did, and glad to avoid the turp butchers.

when you refer to the excel sheet, is there a running excel sheet showingthe different prcedures people did, with whicjh doctor and how they performed? if so that is great as going through these threads is not always that easy.

where can the eexcel sheet be seen?

    thank you.

      Hi Larry ,

yes I started to  harvest data for all  methods.  But after my decision  for FLA I continued just with FLA data patients.

Hi Stan, guess you are in the air right now headed for Houston. Best of luck with your FLA. You will be impressed with the professionalism of Dr. K and the care with which he approaches the procedure. Hope you are able to go out and see some of Housron while you are there. The catheter is a nuisance but you can get around okay with just a little irritation.

I am almost 7 weeks post FLA and continuing to improve regarding strength of urine stream. I did develope some pain in the prostate area about 10 days ago and discussed it with the doctor. He thinks it is probably inflammation rather than an infection and told me to take an anti-inflammatory over the counter med. I was concerned because I had to stop the antibiotic he prescribed after 1 week rather than continuing for the full 2 weeks.

Looking forward to hear about your progress.

      Hi Friends

thank you for your good wish.

yes in Tesday  morning from 6 AM to  11.30  more then  4 hours FLA procedure took a place.

Dr. K said he is satisfied so this is most important now.

He is really Great Man  and Donnie is perfect professional.

Im very weak  in these days, probably reaCTION FOR  PROCEDURE,  swelling, and strong anibiotics Levofloxacin,

Foley cath. is no issue so far.    I will wear it even longer  nearly 2 weeks,  Dr. K after procedure changed it to thinner  2 way CH 14 and this is real difference.

Important is  no infection during recovery  period .

If you have any advice I will be very greatfull .

Flight back in Sunday  via Istanbul  to Vienna - 18 hours together on the road.

Best Wishes to all of us .

      Stan

Hi Stan, I am very happy for you because you are now on the road to a much better life! my advice is follow Dr Karamanian's instructions closely, my idea is with regard to your air flight to minimize risk of blood clot happening is try to walk around each hour this will reduce a blood clot happening which can happen to anyone especially if they have had an operation, well done you are now in the Dr K club and on the road to a much happier life, bye for now kind regards Brian.
