Forthcoming TKR, and jig being manufactured?

Hi
A quick question, i am waiting on going in for TKR left knee, (which is to be followed by THR Left hip when possible after)
I recieved a letter from my Consultant saying he is arranging another MRI scan as they are having to get a specific jig made for my op due to having compoud fractures of the Femur, tib and fib year's ago in a rta.
Has anyone heard of this before, and does this mean the joint i get will likely be a one off?
Cheer's for any replies.

There is a method of of custom design that a company in Sweden (?) has been doing. These are precision cut prosthesis especially done kon an individual basis. Most of us get an "off the shelf" system and they whittle and chisel as necessary to make it fit.. Those that have been on here that have used this new system have high praise for it. New technology all the time keeps making this a better process. I believe the system you will experience require less drilling.

Hi, I had tkr 10 weeks again here in the UK, at an orthopadic specialist hospital stanmore. As I also had previous fractures to my femur and my tibia and I had a deformity to my knee because of fractures. I had a custom built knee joint called smiles. My recovery has been very slow because of the complex surgery. I see my surgeon tomorrow for the first time since leaving hospital 9 weeks ago. I will suggest to you, and please please start exercising your quad muscles now! That has been my biggest hold back... my quad muscles have been so weak because of the change in my leg, they have had to work differently. And now finally I am just able to walk free from crutches in doors. My new would just give way on me... never hurt but scary. So please start exercises them muscles. I am pleased I had the operation and the pain has gone from my knee... it's the muscles have held me back. Good luck with your surgery.

Slowly getting there, had MRI scans of the hip, knee, ankle (all left leg) yesterday so as they can get the jigs made (radiographer said it was the first time they have had to do that proceadure (. i thought there must be a few with alignment issues like me after rta's etc), still looking at around 6wks before the TKR, unless anyone knows if they are made any quicker ?
Will post back on any developments, This is in the UK by the way.
No date as such yet though
