Fresh blood loss 4 weeks after sacrospinous hysteropexy, cystocele and rectocele repair

Hi wondering if anyone can help. I am 4 1/2 weeks post sacrospinous hysteropexy, cystocele and rectocele repair and have bright red heavy bleeding today with lots of small dark clots in it and unsure if it's my period. My last period was due the day before my surgery but never came so I missed a month. I started getting bright red spotting yesterday but it got a lot heavier during the night and today. I also have a nipping sensation inside my vagina and back passage that I think are the stitches pulling but I haven't seen any threads on my underwear. I also have had really bad cramps and heavy thigh area since yesterday. I've been lucky enough to have had an easy time of it so far with little pain and discomfort since the op and even after the initial 3-4 days pinky discharge I was able to stop wearing pads . I have no problem with constipation or pain urinating or with BM thanks to taking a sachet of laxido every night before bed and I have softish stool every morning.

Because you have missed a period your next one is likely to be heavier than normal and it sounds from what you describe that you are beginning to menstruate. You could also have a haematoma that may not have absorbed that's causing some bleeding but because of the pain I'm sure it's your period.

Thanks Matron. The doctor did tell me before he discharged me from hospital that he suspected a haematoma due to my temperature being high and said i would prob notice blood loss after 2 weeks but I thought maybe he had made a mistake as I'm now 4 1/2 weeks down the line. I've just never had any clots during my period and that's what spooked me. Thanks again for your time x

Haematomas can take up to 6 weeks to disperse liz. Take care.

Wow didn't realise that Matron thanks. Things still the same today but for the first time since the op my stomach area feels softer and less pressure will see what the next few days bring x

If your stomach feels softer that's a very good sign. Keep resting and take care.

I felt the same way when I got my period.  I was two weeks post op and I was given some vaginal suppositories with a plastic applicator (eek!) and the next day I started bleeding.  I wasn't sure why I was bleeding or what was going on, but it turns out it was just my period.

For me the cramping was the thing that made me stop worrying as they were normal period cramps and I didn't see why I would get cramps from a problem with the surgical site.

It seems most likely that is your period but if you are worried you could call and talk to the nurse.  Maybe they could tell you what symptoms to watch out for.

Thanks Dorry that was a great help. I'll give it a couple of days and see if it slows down as I don't have a temperature or feel ill x

Hi just a wee update it was definately my period but ever since it came I've had the return of the excruciating right buttock pain - arrgghh

ack, that's no fun.  I'm glad it was your period but that kind of pain can be really tough to deal with.  I'm sorry to hear it.  I hope you have some pain meds to help you through.

Thanks Dorry. I try to just manage with paracetamol but occasionally take diyhydracodine if pain is really bad but been fortunate to be quite well. Today I am 5 weeks and 1 day post surgery and today is the first I've had any stitches in my underwear/pad first it was a largish knotted one then 3 or 4 small straight ones so hopefully it will loosen off a bit x

I'm glad it's not to bad today and hopefully things will ease as the stitches dissolve.
