Fybromyalgia and spondylosis

I have just been diagnosed with Fybromyalgia on top of my ongoing problems of spondulosis in my neck and spine and a shoulder injury which causes chronic pain.  I use morphine patches, paracetamol and tramadol for the pain. But recently I have felt worse and have symptoms alike to having a flu virus where I've been extremely tired and ill. My doctor has diagnosed Fybromyalgia  and given me amitriptyline to take at night which should give me a better quality sleep and help relax my muscles so help with pain.  Does anyone have similar problems and any advice for me.

I have polymyalgia rheumatica which is similar to fibromyalgia with similar symptoms, especially the flue like symptoms, did you have a blood test ? This can determine whether you have poly or fibromyalgia , if it is the latter then steroid treatment is the answer

No I didn't have a blood test my doctor said he could tell from feeling my muscles and from everything I was saying.

Your GP must be very experienced at feeling muscles to be able to make a diagnosis just like that, insist on a blood test, or request another GP for a second opinion I personally would not be happy to accept a diagnosis without the backup of a blood test, it's up to you babe

I have read on line that there is no specific blood test they can do and what he has looked at is all he can do.  I have plenty blood tests though to check that nothing else is going on.

The blood test is to look at erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein levels which 99% of the time can determine if you have poly or fibromyalgia, by the way how old are you if under 60 then quite probably fibromyalgia, if close to or over 60 then more likely to be polymyalgia

Had a quick look at the symtoms for polymyalgia and they different to be honest. My symtoms are much more like those of Fybromyalgia so for now I am happy that my doctor knows what he is talking about.
