Genital HSV 1 chance of outbreaks & recurrences?

I was recently diagnosed with HSV1 on my genitals. I’m in the process of healing from first outbreak, which started about 9 days ago. The weird thing is that when I first noticed any symtoms of herpes, there were only 3 blisters around my vagina that I had mistakened for cuts. I thought that the man I received oral from had accidentally scratched my vagina a couple times from his rough facial hair. I also was extremely itchy at this time, so when I went into the clinic, the lady told me I had a yeast infection and prescribed a cream and Monistat for me to use. I started using that, and just a day or two after, more blisters appeared! I knew I had herpes and not a yeast infection. My thought is that the cream I was using spread the virus from the initial blisters around my entire vagina and caused more... does anyone know if this is likely the case? It wasn’t that bad before I used the cream. However since I used it 2-3x a day all over my vagina, I’m thinking that must be why I started forming more. 3 blisters then turned to about 8-10.. it was very painful, gave me a “swollen” feeling and I could not walk regularly!

I went to a different gynecologist who then confirmed it was herpes, and prescribed me 10 days of Valtrex. My sores are in the process of healing now and I feel much better. I was reading that people with Genital HSV1 are less likely to get outbreaks and shed. Can anyone confirm this? I can’t mind much information online. If you have genital HSV1 please share your experience! Did you get any outbreaks after your initial? I know everyone’s experience is different but since I can’t find much info on GHSV1 I would like to hear from those that do. Thanks!!

Hi! I have hsv1, the first outbreak was on my genitals, from the same way - the guy who had it didn't "know" cold sores were bad and could spread and "one must have been forming" - What a d******d.

Any whoo i was diagnosed maybe 7 months agoish - Since then I broke out in cold sores twice, first face one was worse than the second, and during the first, I got sores on my throat too but at the similar (but not the same time) time of the genitalia outbreak.

In terms of genital outbreak, i mistook it for being sore from rough sex, and was essentially bed ridden for a week (just under) from the flu symptoms it brought and the many aggressive sores,

since then i have had outbreak scares where I've had the symptoms like itch or pain but no sores, so I'm still not confident they were a second outbreak

About 2 months ago, I got 3 bumps which looked like blisters - I used cold sore cream and my pills and it disappeared almost immediately so.... was that an outbreak or just a rash from uncomfortable underwear? Who knows, probably the latter

Honestly I think that I'm so scared of getting an outbreak, I keep mistaking everything as one.

Oh and cause I was diagnosed in Australia, not here in the UK, I've not been able to demonstrate I've got herpes actually down there (herpes is herpes man), cause ive not had a read outbreak woth sores, my GP won't prescribe me with valacyclir that I need and want, as stand bys for the inevitable

I agree, such a d******d! The guy I got it from hasn’t even called or texted me to ask if I was okay since I told him... I’m sooo angry! Many regrets, but I never got the feeling that my life is over because of this, it’s just an annoying and sometimes painful skin condition but I truly believe that it gets better! I also think that staying positive and happy through it all really helps, I was so happy that I was able to pee today without any stinging pain and it was the best feeling I’ve felt in a while! This definitely taught me to not take my health & body for granted ever again.

Are you on any daily antiviral medication? I’m considering going through my first year med-free, just to see how my body truly reacts to the virus. I will probably ask for a “backup perscription” to keep at home for whenever the next outbreak comes, but hopefully it doesn’t return! I’m very hopeful and have a strong feeling that my body can keep the virus at bay as long as I am in good health (:

I got hsv1 about 14 years ago from oral sex. My first outbreak I have cuts and swelling and felt quite ill for a couple of weeks. I’ve had outbreaks since but nothing as bad as that.

For the first 5 years I had quite a lot of tingling, nerve pain and itching but no actual blister outbreaks but then was fine for a few years and thought the virus had burnt out. Towards the end of my pregnancy 2 years ago the prodromal symptoms have started to come back (burning, nerve pain, needing to wee a lot) and then again for the last 6 months.  I’m not sure why after all these years. I’m taking lysine and olive leaf extract.

Im not sure you would have caused the extra blisters by using cream as the virus is just in the lower half of your body and blisters can appear anywhere and not always in the same place on subsequent outbreaks. It’s possible that the outbreak just developed more over a few days.

I’ve been prescribed aciclovir in the past and bought it online but it doesn’t seem to work for me. I’ve heard valtrex is better. Did you get it from a clinic as my gp seemed reluctant to offer it. You can buy it online in uk but it’s expensive.

Glad you are feeling better anyway and fingers crossed you won’t get another episode. Just try and keep your immune system strong and avoid nuts and chocolate. I don’t know if you’ve looked at these sites already but Herpes virus association uk has some info and products on it and I found Herpes.org.nz useful but this was a long time ago. I was told to avoid the American sites as they make everything seem worse than it is.

      Hello @alexxa.

I noticed that you mentioned you were diagnosed with HSV1 14 years ago. Upon being diagnosed for G-HSV1 have you ever also had an oral outbreak?

I was diagnosed with HSV1 genitally last week and now that I have it there I'm wondering if the virus could ever cause the outbreak orally as well...?

      thank you,

      Rosalyn

You only get herpes where you got infected. It cant spred on its own, only if you touch yourself and then touch your mouth right after, smile

After 6 months ISH - you *SHOULD* be immune from getting HVS TYPE I anywhere else on your body

Hi, my first recurrence was 8 months after first ob, that one has no visible sores but had painful urination for two days abd tingling around genital and anal area. My second recurrence is right now . This one has visible sores at anal area, swelling, and itch for seven days. No sores at genital. But some tingling. The trigger I knew was peanuts and cashews I ate a lot in the past weeks. Never had any oral herpes ob but mouth corner was sometimes a little bit red.

Hsv 1 is such a damn virus. The skin is just one thing but the emotional side of it, the depressed mood, and constant worries of hiv ... checked 6 times in 18 months all negative, but still not convinced myself. Its just driving me crazy. Everytime I feel something wrong down there brought back the scary memory if first infection and std screening. Damn.
