For any of you who have genital HSV1, did you have flu symptoms in your initial outbreak? I ask because some sites say that HSV1 does NOT cause flu like symptoms and some say it does.

I absolutely did. achey feeling, chills and sore throat. s I had the sore swabbed and definite hsv1.

I got swabbed and am positive for HSV1. I definitely had flu symptoms for 2-3 days with my first outbreak.

can i ask how you got it? was there oral with or without a sore ? thanks . i havs hsv 1 oral and scared to give oral now

Honestly, after my experience ... I had an honest conversation with my 20 something daughter and told her that she needs to find out if any future partner gets cold sores and if they do . that (oral) should be off the table. Unfortunate, but true. my partner was shedding before the outbreak and I got it. we had been dating 6 months before I even knew he got cold sores. it's not something I knew to ask about! This was bad timing. That said I am the one left permanently changed. At 49 years old.. this SUCKS. He feels like s**t. Things are fine between us but I hate thinking about if this relationship ends.. I will probably not date again. 😦
