My surgery was a hysterectomy, vaginal suspension and rectocele surgery. I was very lucky as I only needed one pain pill for cramps the day after surgery. Yes, my tummy was tender but very little pain. I do take 2 stool softeners daily. I will continue these for 2 mos. I feel great! Even made it to 2 Xmas parties at 2 weeks post op.
Good luck, everyone is different! I was prepared for the worse, and was pleasantly surprised how good I felt. I too have a freezer full of soup and food. Good news I lost 8-10lbs and didn't even try. I eat 3 meals a day! I am sick of Hallmark Xmas movies though!

Fruits, veggies and soups will be good. I am lactose intolerant so I cannot have ensure. The last thing you want is gas because that is extremely painful. I wish that I would have had a spoon full of castor oil the day before my surgery.
Everyday, I have Miralax in hopes that it keeps my stool soft. I thought that I would never see a light at the end of the tunnel but, with prayer everyday seems to be getting a little better and better.

i am a sufferer of I.B.S. Last thing I want after surgery is constipation.
as well I am extremely obese and it will not hurt me to eat rich soups.
let me also explain that my homemade soups are made with either, beef and chicken homemade stocks.
i think I will be ok..
i am already in 4 stool softeners and laxatives daily...
i figured this would help my body...
i also made apple compote, for a treat.

I don't know what you can tolerate with IBS, but if Benefiber is something that is easy to add to soups and I find it helpful for constipation.
I've also read some people say they find psyllium helpful with IBS and I have found it to be incredibly helpful with constipation. Some people can mix it in water and drink it, but it makes me gag. Dilute juice is less awful but still not great. I can sort of tolerate it in a bean soup if I eat it quickly but oatmeal is the easiest way I've found to eat it. I just make the oatmeal with extra liquid and it ends up about the same texture as oatmeal without psyllium.
