Good night's sleep

I was having trouble sleeping on my back and was ending up on my side most nights with a pillow between my knees and waking up numerous times during the night. Well I bought myself a v pillow and stuck a normal pillow under my knees and had the best sleep ever. It was like lying on a soft cloud x

Hi Fiona, I also bought a V pillow, it's great for nights like these when I can't sleep, I'm on this iPad all night so it props me up, only thing is I can't sleep on it as my neck aches after a while, it's quite a firm one not too expensive, I bought it off Amazon, maybe I should've splashed out a bit more!

Hello Fiona, I've found this forum so helpful and reassuring - it's nearly three weeks since my RTHR and I think I've been very fortunate so far with pain relief - only paracetamol morning and night. But like you I find sleeping on my back the most difficult thing and sometimes dread bedtime. I've got a v pillow - but please tell me how you use that, and the other pillow under your knees. I'd love to feel I was lying on a soft cloud!  Do you still lie on your back? I can't quite imagine .... and shld be glad of your advice! 🌺 Grace x

Hi Grace, I have a normal pillow then the v pillow on top with the point at the top. It just props me up slightly and the ends are under my shoulders. I have another pillow under my knees so that there is a slight bend in them. Like you, I am lucky that I don,'t need any pain relief now and could sleep fine on my back in hospital with the top of the bed slightly raised but obviously don't have that at home. As soon as I got home to my own bed I just wanted to lie on my side. But now I have my pillows x

Thanks for your reply.  I think my v pillow might be a little harder than a cloud but I did ok last night!  Sleeping uncomfortably is obviously straining my neck in some way as I'm getting horrid pain down the back of my head and neck.  Not quite a headache, but similar, and takes a while to respond to paracetamol.  But that's my only gripe really!  Thinking of all more recent hippies and sending all encouragement ... DON'T HURRY ANYTHING! 🌺

Unlike the rest of you, I'm still pre-op, but have a lot of pain from my R hip at night.  I can only sleep in one position, on my good hip side with a pillow between my knees and my lovely Dunelm V shaped pillow at the top which I wake up cuddling.  I was looking on Amazon the other day and you can buy a full body pillow, like a huge v shaped pillow with the arms of the 'v' full body length.  Most of the reviews are from pregnant women but I'm getting one and hope it will be useful both pre and post op.  I am dreading lying on my back! x

    Hi Fiona

Try a nice soft mattress topper along with your V pillow it really does help and the thought of bedtime becomes a joy again................ Bliss
