Does anyone attend any anxiety groups or therapy sessions here which helps anxiety?

If so can you describe what they've done for you to help?

I'm really struggling to find people to talk to / meet socially who understand. Anxiety is making me feel like a bit of a freak at the minute....

    Hi Andy,

I suffer from Panic Disorder and was on benzo's for several years. I find guided meditation helps. There are several apps you can download for your phone or tablet which help me tremendously.

I'm actually off all tranquallizer and that was due to mediatation and breathing excersises. The app I use is Calm they have a free and paid version. I love the fact the sessions can be 2 minutes long and you feel like a new person when it's over.

Whenever I feel anxiety starting I just put in my earbuds and do a 2 minute session and all is well.

    Hope that helps

    Hi andy

I go to a mental facility where they have groups and i have been working on DBT which is better than CBT

I myself have a lot of anxieties and with DBT you learn skills like distracting your thoughts, self soothe with the 5 sences, improve the moment, pros and cons, turning the mind, radical acceptance.

Than we learn things like problem solving, observe, just notice, describe in words, participate enter into experience. problem solving, check the facts

These are good tips with DBT and i has helped me my therapist told me that DBT is better than CBT you should try DBT and see how you like it

Hey Andy, Iv started going to CBT groups, my 3rd one is this Friday. I haven't benefited any thing from it yet...but I think it just takes time, I like attending them so that's a start. It's nice to meet people who feel the same as you. Makes me feel abit less crazy.

    Hi Andy,

First of all, I feel your pain completely.

What worked for me more than anything.... Healthy active lifestyle, stopping drinking temporary, removing all negativity from my life, joined a forum to chat to like minded people, self help books....... but the turning point was attending a course, just a night course in my local area. Totally out my comfort zone! I usually avoid social situations! (Unless drunk)

Yesterday was the total turning point. At this course, I was the most confident I've been all my life, becsuse I discovered something I'm good at! and it's just made me believe in myself!

Step out your comfort zone I'd say!.

Voluntary work, local events in something that might interest you, anything. Seriously, it's been only tonic that has worked for me!

Hope that helps and good luck

I've had chronic health phobia for 27 years now and have tried just about everything. For me CBT didn't work so after about 12 sessions gave up. Having said that, I wasn't comfortable with the therapist and I think u def need that rappor and I just think she was crap! I tried hypnosis years ago which helped a little so have now booked with a lady in Newcastle who trained with Paul McKenna for hypnosis and NLP. Something I've not tried. My life has been ruined by anxiety so I'm pinning all my hopes and dreams on this one! Good luck with ur therapy

Hi Elizabeth, dbt hasn't been offered to me yet but CAT therapy has and I'm getting the assessment on 9th? That's also a talking therapy so not quite sure of the difference? I'm just desperate to have some normality in my life and work again! The way I see it, my cardiophobia was put there by a sentence I heard during an intense and traumatic time in my life so why the hell can't I remove it from my brain?? The old Amygdala has a lot to answer for ha

CBT is great for sorting out your bad thoughts and reprogramming the way that you think about things. I hope it works out well for you.
