Hi everyone, I've got a ct scan on my left hip end of this month and I'm not feeling optimistic about it, I had my left hip replaced June 2017 and my right 2018, my left hip has never been right since I had it done, the surgeon who did my THR has now left England and gone back home to his native India leaving my now consultant to address my problem.
I have had x Ray's, bone scans and MRI scans all coming back negative.
The pain what I am experiencing is in the groin area which comes on when trying to lift my leg up if say sitting down, also going up stairs, getting in a car, getting dressed, anything where I have to move my leg into an upward motion, I asked my surgeon that if the ct scan results come back negative than what else could it be, he thinks the hip is not aligned properly, my question is does or have any person had the same problem and if so what does it entail surgery wise and has it worked.
Any answers or explanations are welcome.

I had the same symptoms starting two years after my total hip replacement. The acetabular component (capsule) was malpositioned and it caused psoas impingement. It was discovered by CT and xrays that the capsule was at an inclination of 60 degrees (normal range is up to about 45 degrees). The anterior edge of the capsule was impinging on the psoas and had shredded it. I needed to have a hip replacement revision by a hip revision specialist because my pain would not have gotten any better. So my advice would be to have your consultant check all the angles of your component.

Hi again Jean, what is the psoas, did you have surgery to correct this and if so what exactly am I to expect if I have to go back in for surgery.

Hi, I've had the exact same symptoms. I was fine for a year then the symptoms started. Two years down the line, I've had every scan under the sun done and the Surgeon blames the head of the new implant (says it's too big). The Illiopsoas tendon is the main tendon that keeps your hip joint stable. I've been told that I can have the tendon released or have a completely new implant. Having had 6 operations, I'm probably going to go with the tendon release. I'm also having physio as none of my muscles work properly or in the right order and the muscles at the front of my hip probably work too much.
Good luck.

Hi i had a right hip replacement september 2017 and its never been right since. I had the psoas tendon cut last year which helped a little but they can not find anything else wrong. Have had all the tests done, its so upsetting not knowing what it is.

Thanks everyone for getting back to me on this, I had another CT scan Friday just gone so until I go back to my consultant for the results I'm still in the dark, what I do want to ask.. if the cup is to large what would be my choices, some of you have mentioned having the tendon cut if so is this a big job and how long would I be laid up, also would I be back on crutches or a cane, the other choice is if I'm told I may need another new hip replacement would it be worse than having a hip replacement first time round.
I know it's all questions but from June 2017 I have been left in pain since, I have recently gone onto morphine from my pain management team, everyday I sit looking out of the window thinking and thinking I wish I was out of all this pain all together, I can't say I wish I'd never had the THR as my hip came out of the socket while I was at work.
Oh well, the Joy's of getting old I suppose, open to any answers as per usual.
I'll keep you all posted when I get my results back.

After 3 months, I too have exactly the same symptoms on the side of my THR. It is very frustrating and only when it's not in motion that is pain free. I go to sleep o.k, but wake up throughout the night because of the movement when I sleep creates the groin pain that wakes me up. I can't win. I'm hoping it will go away, but I'm calling the doctor's office on Monday. Maybe more time will heal?
