Gynecologist vs Vulva Specialist

I realize that gynecologists don't have as much information as a vulva specialist, but has anyone seen a vulva specialist who recommended anything besides Clobestol or some other cortisone ointment?  What did they recommend to prevent fusing? Are they worth seeing?

After being diagnosed by a gynocologist in November of 2017, I was prescribed the clob and nothing else. She didn't even give me direction on how to take of myself, down there. In April of this year, I went to see a vulva specialist and she has been treating LS patients for 16 years. She told me to stop taking the clob. I have a very mild case and it is too strong. I was prescribed Triamcinolone ointment. The price is way more affordable than the clob. I am so grateful to have found a specialist in my area. She gave me the dos and donts. I still hate this condition, can't even stand to look at my genitals, don't ever want to get back into a relationship, because of LS and because I basically feel dead down there. I have been to counseling and I still trying to come to terms with LS. At least I have a doctor who can help me, so I'm not totally alone. I am dealing with other health conditions that can kill me if I ignore them, so I force myself not me let this condition consume me. LS feels like it is killing my spirit, but I won't let it.

Hi Angela,  thank goodness you saw a specialist. Please don't let the LS kill your spirit to date again.  Although I am putting dating on hold until I get the LS under control, I do want to be involved.  I'm 73 so anyone I date will have their own issues, if you know what I mean.   It sounds like you have more than your share of health problems.  I'm sorry to hear that.  I hope this site gives you some comfort in also not feeling alone.  I wish you better health in the coming weeks and months.  Let us know how you are doing from time to time.

After seeing a Derm. I saw a Gyn. who specializes in vulva issues.  She said Clobestol so I use that.  Although that does not alleviate the pain when urinating - I have to stretch my legs up on the wall in front of my toilet so the urine will run "downhill".  I cry uncontrollably while urinating.  It's odd because I seem to have a flair up right before I travel abroad (the last 3 times it has happened).  I leave on Sunday for Ireland and I'm worried to death!  I did buy 2 of the recommended herbs plus aloe cream to try.  Fingers crossed!!  This stuff is a literal pain in the ass!!

Hi Patricia.  Wow, that is so odd about flare-ups right before traveling. I am still experimenting with what works best for me.  I've been using Emuaid more than anything else.  No itching for days, but fusing and white patches have been hard to eliminate.  I'm still searching online on what to do. Inbetween the aggravation of LS I do hope you have a good time in Ireland.  Maybe a distraction is just what you need. Do keep in touch when you return. I wonder how Ireland deals with LS. Safe and happy travels.

Hi Patricia, yours is a great example of how stress can bring on a flare.

      Best of luck for Sunday.

      Maybe take a Xanax.

I think you will be fine in Ireland, most of the pharmacists have been trained to give good advice. The weather has broken over here so pack a warm sweater!!
