Keep rinsing gently with warm salt water, stick to soft foods. It can take a couple of weeks. If the pain is too intense then visit the dentist again, a thing called dry socket can be a problem. It's when the blood clot shifts too early

I concur. Dry socket. I had the same thing years ago. A short course of antibiotics will help. Go back to the dentist.

Depending which tooth was out, theres a lot of trauma in the area when a tooth is extracted. It's not uncommon for things to be painful for a few weeks, but it should never be excruciating. Is the blood clot still visible, can you see areas of white bone? If so that's dry socket which is very painful, but a dentist should be able to spot that
