My G.I. doc perscribed me 5 mg of amitriptyline for gut hyperactivity (I have chronic belching and lot's of gurgling, cramps, and nausea). I was wondering if anyone has experienced any side effects on such a low dose. I have times where my body wants to fall asleep, yet at the same time I feel a lot of nausea. I know it sounds weird, but it feels like I am suspended between sleep and discomfort in a weird semi conscience way. Tell me if this sounds crazy!

    Hi Anais

?I was put on 10mg at night (well early evening) for sciatica - it was to help me sleep and to see if it helped the persistent pain. I felt like my body was heavy as if in sleep but my brain was still as active as ever. I had to stop taking them after 3 weeks for an entirely different reason but I can't say that heavy feeling etc. had disappeared by then. How long have you been taking them now?

I was prescribed 10mg to treat severe headaches brought on my some chiropractic treatment on a neck injury. They made me feel extremely drowsy and "spaced-out" the next day. Best thing to do is take them two hours before you go to bed. They didn't make me feel drowsy in that period but did help me get a good night's sleep and cured the pain.
