Has anyone had my symptoms?

Hi everyone,
I would just like to pass on my experience.About 6 weeks ago I went on a night out and had a few beers and a chinese takeaway. The next morning I felt really sick and had a pain under my right ribcage. The pain and sickness lasted nearly a week,I just thought it was maybe food poisoning. The symptoms were still there so I went to my gp who give me a card to make an appointment for an ultrasound. It was a 2 week wait!A couple of days later I ended up in A&E with the pain. All my bloods were normal but the doctor mentioned that it could be gallstones.I didnt have to stay in hospital so I had to just wait for my scan. That didnt show up anything neither!Still having the symptoms I went back to my gp and asked him to refer me to a specialist he reluctantly agreed.I have been waiting 3 weeks for the appointment. It is on thursday.I suffer from terrble wind at night and have been recently getting pain on either side of my stomach as well as under my ribs.I also suffer from indigestion.I dont know if I have gallstones .I am worried in case it is something more serious.I feel as though I am going mad at times.Sometimes I get the pain if I havent had anything to eat! This forum is a godsend to me!XX

I had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago, approximately a year ago i had very similar experience to you - was on a night out and had pizza on the way home, then during the night and in the morning i was in severe pain. I had only had the pain once before, which followed an indian meal. Although i wasnt sick i hear that it is one of the symptoms experienced by many gallstone patients. All i can advise is to pursue the appointments with the doctors, i was told by 3 seperate GP's that i had IBS and that it was down to stress, it wasnt until i took myself to A&E after the worst attack that i was told anything but even then it took a 5 day stay in hospital before i was scanned to confirm the gallstones were present. As i said i had my gall bladder removed 2 weeks ago, the surgeon was really surprised when he came to see me following the procedure as he had removed 20-25 stones along with my gallbladder and one of the stones was the size of double-marble - he chuckled and said \"i'm not surprised that you were in so much pain\", i dont think that the doctors always realise just how painful it can be. If you do have gallstones i wouldnt hesitate to have them removed again, so far i havent had any problems - i was home the same day from surgery and i'm back at work next week. Try to stick to a low fat diet and avoid dairy, hope this helps.

As for the old wives tale about fatty foods and gallstone attacks i think the consultant might want to hide if everyone who ever had an attack heard what he was saying. I have been told by several different medical staff that fatty foods cause an attack, attacks arent exclusively caused by fatty foods however the majority of people still get attacks even when sticking to a very low fat diet and this can be caused by the movement of the stones.
Hope this helps - if i were you i would ask for a second opinion but i know its easier said than done with the NHS.
