Have I got IBS?

Hello sorry I'm new to this forum so I hope you mind me sharing my experience with you. I've always had a sensitive stomach and have suffered on / off with a painful bloated stomach.

However, the last 6 months I have had really bad symptoms. I  wake up every night feeling very sick and can't lie on my side so I have to sit up in bed because I feel like my stomach is bloated and there is a heavy feeling in my lower stomach that doesn't seem to move. I then feel throughout the same day that same feeling of pain and bloated in my stomach. It's unbearable and when I go running I can feel this lump that's right inside my stomach that's causing this discomfort. I'm convinced it's more than IBS but every time I go to the docs they say it's IBS and give me Omeprozole which gave me bad side effects so I stopped taking them. Now I'm just freestyling and trying to find foods that are making it worse.  I've never before had this feeling and it's affecting my day to day life and I don't know what else to do??

Please can anyone relate to this and offer any help? Does this sound like IBS? Thank you

Omeprazole is for heartburn and not IBS.  You need an antispasmodic to help with your pain.  Try Buscopan and Nurofen. I initially found it sore to lie down on with IBS. Now, this has improved.

It is common for IBS patients to doubt their diagnosis. However, the more you doubt, the worse your symptoms will be.  Trust your doctor and your diagnosis of IBS especially since they keep confirming Irritable Bowel. Try a food diary and the Low Fodmap diet.

Thanks for much for your advice. I've had 5 days without stomach pain or waking up in the night! The more I dont think about it the better it is so that advice was so helpful thank you. I'm trying to do more yoga and headspace to relax me which is helping. Do you think I potentially had gastritis on top of IBS which is why it was so bad?

It is possible you have gastritis as well.  However, to confirm this, you would need an endoscopy.  IBS can be very severe for some people so it is also possible that your symptoms are only down to IBS.  I had very bad IBS for three and a half months and when my diagnosis was confirmed, everything got so much better.

Im sure what youre sufferring is ibs it sounds like it. Has everything else been ruled out? Im just saying as i have been told for 2 years ive got ibs to now be told after worsening synptoms and 6 visits to hopital it turns out to be gallbladder issues which i suspected and suggested to docs from day one and was dismissed. I have had to push gp for every test and theyve missed this problem. Im not saying this to dismiss or scare you, just you know your body... keep pushing if you dont feel right. Btw i take lanzoprazole for reflux and sometimes i feel like theres a lump right in my gut. Good luck with your symptoms x oh and i agree with pippa. Dont stress too much about it as you can develop symptoms of anxiety and other ibs. Remember the brain and the gut are closely linked.

Hello thanks so much for your response. The head and gut are very closely linked and I've tried not to stress about my stomach too much and the pain has gone so great advice! It's very strange that it can flare up so badly and then disappear. I did think I had a stomach ulcer but now that the pain has gone I don't think I do. Sorry to hear you had a problem with your Gallbladder - how did you test for it as apparently a blood test doesn't show it. I asked for a proper blood test of my kidneys and liver etc but they said because they came back healthy a year ago I didn't need to. I think if I try and not stress then my stomachs fine but even the smallest amount of anxiety can make my stomach terrible

Ive been to a and e 6 times for abdo pain all symptoms of gallbladder/stones. And i get blood tests every time. Liver kidney and pancreas function all normal. Urine normal. Ct and ultra sounds normal. Endoscopy notmal. Not gluten intolerant. Hospital admited me nil.by mouth to remove gallbladder butvas tests were normal they sent me home. Ive been dismissed by doc for years and ive insisted on tests and had to become quite confrontational in order to get seen. Went private even. Ive now changed doctors and have had immediate referral. Trying not to get stressed but its difficult when no one can help.

Good luck in your fight x

You poor bigger  you have joined the correct forum group.  This is definitely ibs and the only that works for acid for me is a rani to dine,  it has the other name zoflat or something similar.  Ask your chemist.  The acid should hopefully stop  try some yoga or something to deal with the stress
