Head and Neck ache followed by spinal epidural THRP

Good eveing hippies.  Love this site and so grateful that I was able to stumble upon it.  I just had my left heip completely replaced with the direct anterior method on Wednesay.  All seems well as expected and recovering nicely.  My problem is that I have severe head and neck pain after staning or walking for a short lenght of time.  As soon as I lie down the pain goes away.  Dr said it's normal for the spinal anaesthesia.  However told me to come back to the office on monday if the pain doesn't go away.  Said they may have to treat me for a lumbar puncture.  As anyone experienced this and did the pain eventually subside.  Thanks to all the good folks on this site for the many great contributions.

    Hi Tony,

I experienced the pain you describe.  I had to go back to have a blood patch done.  This was long ago, so I do not know what they do now, but they took my own blood and directed it to the puncture site to form a clot.  It lifted the pain some, but all in all, I was down on my back for 14 days.  The pain of sitting up and/or standing was excruciating before the blood patch, and was allieviated somewhat after.

It is different for everyone and I sure hope your pain stops soon.

    Warmest regards,

      Hi Dawn

Thank you for the well wishes.  Had to get an epidural blood batch today due to the spinal anesthesia.  Feeling much better now.  You inspired me to dig deeper and I followed up with my doc and got this done today. Still tender hoping to get out this weekend for some fresh air and a short stroll.  Thank you for replying to the post which pointed me in the right direction.  Best Wishes, Tony

    Hi Tony,

I am checking in with you to see how you are doing today ... so sorry to hear about your head and neck pain though ...

I understand that this can be a side-/after effect of a spinal, actually of any anesthestic-

I hope you are feeling better today - be gentle with yourself-
