Hi I'm a 19 year old female I have been suffering from anxiety for 3 month now and it's taking over my life. I keep thinking I have breast cancer I am constantly feeling for lumps and changes in my breasts. I keep searching online and I know I'm worrying myself more. I'm scared to go to my doctors and I'm embarrassed to talk to my friends and family. My doctor put me on propranolol on 16th April over a month ago. Could someone tell me what kind of symptoms they get with anxiety and what side effects they have with propranolol. I have also noticed spots around my nipples they have been there for a month. Im very worried about them I'm deffo not pregnant as I've just finished a period. I also have bruised my boobs off pressing to hard I think checking for lumps and I have found something which isn't round it's like a thick hardish string at the side of my boob.

Health anxiety is very common with anxiety, I think it is more likely to be an offshoot to this than your medication. Health anxiety is terrible, I suffer too. No amount of checking or reassurance will help, what really needs controlled is not the health anxiety itself but rather the underlying anxiety.  Medication or therapy or both will help. Beta blockers may not be the best anxiety medication, but a talk with your doc will help,be honest about the health anx too, they've heard it all before and it's very common

I've had health anxiety for years.  You must go to your doctor and get him or her to check your breasts and then tell them about your health anxiety.  This is becoming more common and your GP will be aware of the complaint.  Finally please please stay off the net.  It will make you worse.  I know I have been there.  Good luck let me know how you get on.  Therapy is normally the best thing for health anxiety not medication

Hi, propranolol blocks the adrenalin gland from releasing adrenalin into your blood stream. So you know that racy feeling you get, when you have an attack. Like all beta blockers, it can slow down heart rate / pulse rate and can make you drowsier. But it is short acting meaning it doesn't stay in your system for more than a few hours. It acts very quickly so preferred by many.

Take as prescribed by your doc and hope you feel better soon.

    Vincent.

It can be scary going to the Doctor, but it's much better than self diagnosing! Once you tell them about your health anxiety, they will be able to help you and even have a check of your boobs to put your mind at rest.

You are most likely just feeling natural parts of your breasts and your brain is making you feel that it's not right. Your Doctor will put your mind at rest and I think that's the best thing for it.

Propanolol slows your heart rate and calms you down. I was told the side affects can be lightheadedness when standing and being quite tired. My Doctors told me there aren't many cons to it, but even though I have terrible anxiety and physical symptoms, I don't need it because I don't have heart palpitations or tremors often enough. xx

    Hey daniella

I got me the health anxiety as well.  Started last year, ended up in hospital for a rapid heartbeat, tests done, plumb healthy.  Since then I have been worried about my health.  Since January I have had stomach cancer, throat cancer, lymphoma, lung cancer and this week I had pancreatic cancer.  However when I found out the pain was nowhere near my pancreas I now, as I write, have kidney cancer or failure. Couple of weeks ago I noticed I had a mild stitch feeling in my Lower left back and side.  Since my mind has gone into overdrive, my symptoms have spread to the other side.  Don't think for one minute that your anxiety cannot cause pain and other symptoms. Doctor told me once, when you feel mild pain, just think about what you have done differently. Have you lifted something heavy, maybe poking and prodding your breast?  That is 99 out of 100 times the cause.

Anyway, I have some kidney failure to be getting on with.
