Heart rate

Hello all, happy new year.

I am on my 3rd day of propanolol and I like to monitor my heart rate just to make sure everything is okay. Before I started taking propanolol for anixety I was taking prozac (10mg) and my heart rate would vary from 75-99 bpm. Now it's down to about 59-64bpm. The reason why I was started on propanolol is because of the shakyness and the heart palpitations and now that I have only two days on propanolol, I no longer feel the palpitations, but now my heart rate is a little low and it's kind of scaring me. What do you guys think?

That is absolutely normal with propanolol, it does slow your heart rate down a bit but 59-64bpm is still a healthy pulserate and it's great that it's heping your other symptoms.

Of course if in doubt always check back with your doctor but from what I have heard about propanolol that is to be expected and is fine, my husband has that heart rate naturally and his doctor is happy with it so it's certainly not dangerously low or anything, it's just your meds doing their job.

      You're not taking propanolol anymore?

And I'll try my best to not live in fear. Anxiety has such a way of taking control. I was suppose to start nursing school this month, but I had to put it on hold because everything hit me all at once around 4 months ago. It's terrible, I'm surprised I was able to graduate from college.

No I had low blood pressure so it lowered my heart rate quite a lot and for me the doctor didn't think the my would help a lot, I noticed a difference but come off them and feel better, I'm anaemic which contributed to the rapid heart rate and palpitations so on iron tablets and been a lot better.

It does but don't let it control you, I was awake at 3am this morning having multiple panick attacks I don't have a clue why but I got through it we have to be strong, it's only anxiety that's what I keep saying we won't die lol it's hard though! Xx

Being anemic and having anxiety at the same time is the worse. I'm in the same situation and most times I'm not sure if my symptoms are caused by the anxiety or the anemia, which is scary. I hope that you are feeling better

Propaolol is an amazing drug.. had it after I had my baby because I had developed severe pre-eclampsia toxemia and my on went into hypertension.. after a couple of weeks I felt like my normal self.. it lowers bp which in turn allows your heart rate to return to normal smile a low bp of 50 odd is ok because fit people naturally have lower heart rates .. don't worry too much about it's effects though because I would recommend it 10/10
