Heavy periods

I haven't had a 'proper' period for 18 months just an occasional one lasting a day or two and very light. This week I have had a full on heavy period and three days in, it doesn't seem to be getting lighter. Is this unusual?

Hi Sue... Ugh, right? My last period 3 months ago was like that for 4 days and spotted last 3 days. I just went to my Gyno for my annual and to discuss peri memo, She said it is normal to have many types of changes. She did say that when you have 12 months being period free then you are officially in menopause. She said, if after that time, you have any type of bleeding that that is not normal and to make sure you come in to get checked. I am having extreme joint pain, insomnia, occasional hot flashes and migraines. I am doing a hormone saliva test and should have the results next week.

I am not sure whether to take natural supplements, HRT or Bio--HRT. Will discuss and weigh my options. Are you taking anything for your peri-menopausal symptoms? Let me know how you are doing.... Lisa smile

Thanks Lisa. No I am not taking anything at present. Had night sweats but they seem to have stopped at the moment. Tend to wake quite often at night and have pains down the outside of my legs so have to lie on my back. I have still been having the odd light period sporadically but this one came out of nowhere! Onward and upward!!

Yep.  You are getting closer to being done with cycles.  I had a couple of biggies near the end.  Kind of a "one for the road" kind of thing.

Oh thanks, that's put my mind at rest. I couldn't find any info regarding this specific problem!

Welcome.  Heavy bleeding is usually too much estrogen in relation to progesterone.  That imbalance will also cause clotting.
