Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Good morning to my Bunion friends.

This just in!!! Yesterday was DAY 14 and today is day 17!! Lost three days somewhere. !!! Stiches come out today and I'm guessing on to the next phase.

Yesterday I did alot. Spent 6 hours out and about and my foot responsed pretty well. Couldn't wait to get home to ice and elevate. Occasional throbbing. Nothing but ADVIL during this whole process.

Not sure who mentioned something about tight bandages. Had to make a special trip to the Dr. due to blisters from tight wrap. They were popped and I did have burning pain for a day afterwards.

Jenny - Sometimes my big to feels like it will explode and with coldness numbbing and pin and needles.

Rena - that half sock really works to keep foot warmer.

Anita - Hope you are making progress and we just have to pray for your brother. He obviously is angry and normally anger is do to something we fear. Have to be grateful it isn't us.

Well today is another long day. Dr appt., nursing home, funeral of one of my fire chiefs who passed and a 50th surprise birthday dinner for my friend Matt who just bought me a new TV to watch while I recovery.

Wow we are all so blessed. Stay grateful my friends. Life is so much brighter when we find gratitude on a daily basis.

    Love and Respect

    Good morning everyone,

Day Seven for me woo hoo. The week went fast. Had another bad night sleeping. Lots of pain and had to get up and take pain meds. Looks like I am going to run out so I will make a call to the surgeons office and see what they can do. Tylenol 3 just doesn't do anything for me. Seems the pain is getting worse? Is this normal. I find that putting the foot down is getting worse too, lots of blood rushing to the toes and WOW its painful. Anyone else have this and how long does that last for? I have Occupation Health and Saftely coming today to look at my shower/bath. No idea how to get into my shower as I have a three glass panel doors on my shower/bath. I am in real need of a bath and its been a week. I have been washing my hair in the sink and washing down with a wash cloth but its not the same.I told her where the key is and to come in. She says she will show me how to use the crutches. This sounds like FUN.

Bob, take it easy today as it sounds like a long day. I wonder how you lost three days, lol. Exciting news that your getting the stitches out. Let us know how it goes. So what is the next step?? Are you going to be allowed to bear weight now.

Have a fantastic Friday everyone. Hope the weather is nice and you can enjoy the weekend.

    Hi Bob

You have a very busy day ahead, ending on a happy note with your friends birthday party. Good luck with the stitches, another stage over.

Anita, I too have a brother the same. All sorts of things happened last year when Dad passed away. Don't suppose we will keep in touch now as Mum passed away 12 years ago yesterday. Sad but I'm not the bitter one. Think it's a jealousy thing as I did more for my parents. I could have done with the help at the time.

As Bob says we are so blessed. When I look out of my window at the rolling hills and the sun 'trying' to come out, I thank God Im still here to enjoy it all. Every day is precious.

Rena I did something similar with the sock thing. It is awkward with the pin sticking out. Couldn't wait to get rid of it. I used my hubby's socks as they weren't so tight. It took me 4 attempts to get it right. He's lucky he's got any left lol. 😋

Blimey we are all having a good Friday............I am actually walking round house with a slipper on my operated foot. YES A SLIPPER and not that .......BIG BLACK BOOT/SHOE...................BALL AND CHAIN THINGY.

Anita I never had a bath for 3weeks, I didn't want to chance anything going wrong. My daughter wanted to put me in the bath at her house but I was stubborn and would not let her do it.Having her bath me is not an option that is for when Im very old.

When I eventually got in bath I put my foot in 2 binliners so it didn't get wet, tied it round at the knee. then rested my leg on a tiny plastic stool whilst in bath. Worked for me.

Still have to wash my hair in the sink......lol

Bob enjoy yr day you will looose another 3 days getting over the energy you will use, BUT WHAT FUN

My boss has just rung me up to ask where I am in my recovery............I said " How long have you got, as it changes every day."

    Afternoon everyone,

I am now 22days post op and had my first physio session this morning. OMW....all I can say is ouch! My poor little foot was pulled/prodded and poked. I was given some really good exercises to do and see them again in just over 2 weeks. I've been told to ditch the heel wedge shoe, go full weight bearing and to try not use the crutches anymore. I'm sitting here Elevating and icing at the moment.

Going to go sandal/shoe shopping this weekend for something comfortable to wear.

How is everyone else doing today?

Carmen, without having to scroll back, what did you have done and what exercises have you been given?

I have only been given 1 and that's not going too well.

    Hi all !

Yesterday on Day 8 post-op I called the surgeon with a couple of questions about what I was experiencing. I started a new thread titled Questions to the Doctor thinking one place for this type of information might be useful and hope others will add to it.

Bob.....good luck with the stitches removal Hope it's not too painful. I'm planning to take ibuprofen before having mine out on April 7th.

Carmen....wow full weight bearing at 22 days! Sounds awesome. I'm not sure, but am under impression it will be 6 weeks before I can do that. Will find out April 7 when stitches removed. I will also find out if physio is a part of what they recommend here.

Be....I feel your jubilation...wooohooo!!! What stage are you. Enjoy this new found freedom 😊

Have a great Friday all !

Hi Jan,I had the capital osteotomy (also know as the Austin or Chevron). IT seems to vary a lot as to when we can start weight bearing, but I did double check this morning and was told it would be fine. I've been given a long list of exercises.... Listed a few below

Roll your foot over a tennis ball from heel to toe and try to grip the ball as it rolls under your toes

Tissue scrunches... I.e. try and grip the tissue with your toes (lol I'm finding this one very difficult)

Try and push your toes down as far as they will go and then try and stretch your toes up towards the ceiling

Have both feet on the ground will sitting and roll your ankle gently around

    Fully curl toes

Practice heel to toe rolling/gentle walking

These are not as easy as they sound, especially the tissue scrunches when your toes are refusing to cooperate.

These plus a few others I need to do 3 times a day, once done I've been advised to elevate and ice.

Rena-yes I was also surprised, but I'm certainly not going to overdue anything.

What physio have others been advised to try.

Oh I've also been told to gently start massaging the scar tissue and apply bio oil.

Thanks Carmen, I have copied these and will give them a go. The tissue one is similar to the one and only exercise I was given. Scrunch up a towel with your toes, then straighten the towel back out. As you say not easy and my towel hardly moved. Maybe better luck with a tissue.

I use bio oil. Someone also suggested body shop peppermint oil.

Jan,the tissue didn't even move this morning. I'll let you know how I get on. Never thought of using peppermint oil! I've used bio oil in the past and know it works really well.

Thanks for the list Carmen. I've printed out for future use. Hopefully at 22 days like you !
