Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

My started off so well, did a bit of weight bearing and then I tripped when going into my front door and without thinking I put my op foot down to steady myself! Oh my goodness the pain was unbearable. Icing my foot at the moment and have fresh blood around the scar.....not a happy bunny right now.

Yesterday was a long day. We traveled to another city 100 miles away to buy a new car. I was able to keep the foot elevated and iced in the car. I took along a small cooler filled with ice so I could replenish my ice pack and it worked great. The car dealership was so nice helping me get comfy. Of course they were nice, we were buying a new car right? That new car smell...yum. Our van had 130,000 miles on it and it was time although I hate the payments again. My ex-bunion site is doing well. So so sore after Physical therapy but it is helping so much. I highly recommend PT. The other three surgical sites are doing well. The most painful one is the one across the bottom on my heel. Putting pressure on it is like razor blades! It is slowly slowly getting better though.
Hope everyone has a lovely, less painful day!

Anita - First showers are awesome. Today I will take my first shower getting my foot wet and change the bandage myself. Well Saint Annette will help me. Kieep working it kiddo.
Joan - Haven't food shopped yet and I can understand the thrill off scootering thru the isles' The little things in life. LOL. Make sure you stay away from the cookie section.
Rena - I use the scooter most of the time. Hopping to the trunk to get it sometimes is the issue and when I do steps. Gonna have to go to plan B. Always need a plan B. I hope that sun comes out for you soon and it warms up.
Carman - Easy Does It. As long as we get back up!!!
Jenny - Good luck with your new car. I feel ya about those payments. At this stage (55) I don't want any more payments myself.
Hope everyone has a pain free day. Today I am going to visit my mom at nursing home. She started medical marijuana yesterday and had a bad reaction to i, became sick. She's really struggling. Usually get her out for air and get her up out of bed for a walk and now I don't think I can. See what happens.
Overall pain is low. Numbness is starting to subside a bit. Doing weight on heel starting yesterday. PROGRESS!!!
Have a great day and remember if you are having a tough time. THIS TOO SHALL PASS
Love and Respect.

Yesterday was a boring day, elevate, ice and take pain meds. Hubby went and got me another big bottle. Doctors here seems very generous. He went to ours and got 100 more percocets. Hopefully I wont need them. Needing a bath today. One week done woo hoo, another two and I see the surgeon, cant wait. Mom is having troubles with her hearing aids again, so hubby had to pick them up yesterday. Seems one has stopped working so will have to deal with that tomorrow from command central here. Today will be another sunny day so hubby is going to visit Mom and take her outside for a little fresh air.

My stitches are coming out this afternoon and I'm excited about seeing the big reveal of what's going on under this thick bandage. I am wondering whether I should take Advil before going to lessen the discomfort. My hesitation is wondering whether the surgeon tests for anything that taking the pain killer would mask my normal reaction. Any advice? Also, what kind of bandage do they put on at this stage?

Hope everyone is doing better. Pretty much the same yesterday. Slept for the first time with nothing on my foot. Showered and got my foot wet. Finally gave it a bath. Still get major numbness. Again as long as I ice and elevate it seems to be better.
First part of visit with mom yesterday at nursing home was mush and things got better after scootering her out side for air in the wheelchair. Quite a show.
ANITA - Hope the bordom passes. Stay patient with your mom and we have to accept the situation just as it is on this day. Sometimes it's difficult.
To all, have a great Monday!!!

Rena - good luck for this afternoonl. You should now only have a light dressing put on. When I had my stitches out, I had a light dressing which I had to have on for 24 hours and then that was removed by myself and the ''wound'' will then no longer need a dressing. I guess we could all be different though.
Oh and definitely take some pain killers.
Bob - glad to hear you are doing well.
Well this is now day 3 of doing my physio exercises, still can't do the tissue scrunches, but have started heel to toe full weight bearing. I can only do a few steps at a time but slowly getting there. I do find that the more I do, the more I elevate and ice. Oh and I'm also only using one crutch - purely for balance. Lol I am walking really really slow.

Day 10 for me, woo hoo. Its going quick when I count by. I sure cant wait to sleep on my side again. Sleeping on the back all night is a killer for me. Hubby says I dont snore, but maybe cause he is snoring and cant hear me, lol. Its going to be a gorgeous next two days here in Calgary. They are calling for 15C today and tomorrow 18C. We are having burgers on the BBQ tomorrow. Why not, have to celebrate the warm weather.
Rena,
I have been told to take pain meds for sure when having the stiches out. What a wonderful day for you!! You get to see result too. Take some pictures. This is a new phase your going to start. Let us know how it goes.
Bob,
I have this picture in my mind of you on the scooter and pushing the wheelchair, it sounds funny but I am sure there was a lot of balance involved. There was no one to help you? Nice that you got to see your Mom and I am sure she enjoyed the visit. Time is precious and so are Mom's. Way to go on bathing your foot. How does the scar look? Do you start physio soon tooÉ
Carmen,
Hang in there, your doing great and you do see progress each day so that is a good thing. Baby steps.
Jenny,
Way to go on the new vehicle. I am suprised you made it that long on the drive but having the ice packs with you was a great idea. I didnt know they cut you on the bottom of the heal, why do you know. What is there that they removed. I havent heard of that before.
Joan,
Where are you. Are you still shopping, lol.
Have a nice warm sunny day friends. Remember this is ``ME`` time, so enjoy it to its fullest.

Also went to doc today and got some antibiotics as I thought my foot was extra sore and red, he had a look but just said maybe infection or maybe just the soft tissue inflamed, the antibiotics are really a precaution.
Off to plop all me vegetables in water and start cooking.

more often....gotta get back to being more careful
Thanks for the comments on the physio Carmen....prepares those of us who are yet to get there and makes expectations more realistic.
Anita....I am sleeping on both sides as well as back for about 5 days now. Like you this back sleeping was killing my back. Both feet are elevated of course and I just have to be careful not to put pressure on the bad leg...no putting in over or under the good one. I wonder when one can stop elevating at night.....
Joan....good thing about the antibiotics. I was given them as a precaution at the beginning.....hope I can get off them now. Will ask this afternoon.
Keep trucking Bob.....you are an amazing son....but remember to take care of yourself so you can better take care of your precious mom.
Jenny.......congrats on the new car !! How exciting. What a treat to have in the middle of all this !
Ciao for now.....comfortable and patient day to all !
