Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Eileen, I think if you have a nail buffer, one of those four sided ones, you could gently buff that orange off of the nail. If not, toenail polish will cover it when you are allowed to use it.

Over did it yesterday. Up moving around all day at the nursing home wheeling mom around in the wheelchair while on the scooter. She's really struggling. Makes it hard to heal myself. Went to watch a baseball game in which I probably shouldn't have gone but had fun. Time I got home my foot was like a balloon. This morning swelling went down and it's a new day.
Anita - I had all the same things you have. Blood, hard shell. I believe thats fine.
Hope everyone is doing well and it's another sunny day in New Jersey. Time for so crunches, pushups and Oatmeal.
Have a great day!!!

Well done Jenny! You will be walking without crutches before you know it.
Bob - make sure you rest and don't overdue it.
To eveyone else - keep it up.
The physio exercises are coming along nicely and I was finally able to partly do the tissue crunch (picking up a tissue with your toes). Couldn't wait to tell my hubby, but he just looked at me like I was mad. Looking back I guess it is a little strange to be so excited about being able to pick up a tissue with your toes
A bit more progress as well, I am now hobbling without any crutches and am finally able to do a bit of housework, without asking anyone to help me. So all in all things are progressing along nicely.
If anyone is offered physio by the hospital/Dr/Consultant I highly recommend it.
Hope we all have a lovely day.

I've got 2 cockatiels who find it absolutely fascinating when I do my exercises, had the one trying to eat the tissue I was TTing, while the other one kept on saying to me ''what you doing''...did make me chuckle. (to be fair he only knows how to wolfwhistle/say what you're doing/NO and then the usual stream of whistles).

Well lets see, yesterday was a balmy 20C and sunny and today so far its 0 and SNOWING, yep you read that right. I like in Calgary, Alberta where this is normal for us.
Am finding that the foot asks for ice on its own. Seems to have its own schedule, it starts burning and then calms down. They have it all bandaged up and now I can feel the bangade between the big and little toe, makes it feel like I am wearing a thonges. Havent worn them in years cause my toe didnt like it. I am a Crocs girls as they are more comfy for bunions, sure hope I still feel that way once this is over with. I am also part of the "I survived a bunionectomy" on Facebook, if anyone is interested. Getting lots of info there too. Some are saying they need toe spacers for a while after the bandages come off, any one else found that.
Well MIL is coming over today for lunch for a lovely visit (rolling my eyes here) but hey its a visit so I will take it. Helps pass the couch surfing. I am so into my show Nip and Tuck that its hard to tear myself away from it. Cant wait to start reading a real book, once I am all caught up, should take another week of watching full time.
Jenny, way to to on walking with one crutch. I just cant get the crutch thing going so my scooter is going to have to be a part of me for a long while. So happy for you thou. You sure had a lot of incisions but they will heal.
Eileen, did you get the iodine off your nail yet.
Bob, what can I say. You need to take it easy man. REST, ELEVATE and ICE, how many times have you heard that?? I know its hard taking care of your Mom and the responsibility on you. She loves you for it and she needs you. Your a wonderful son. Take care of you so you can take care of her.
Carmen, wow no crutches thats fantastic!! I would be proud too of all the exercises and especially of being able to pick up a Kleenex. Ask your hubby to do it right now the way he is, I bet its hard for him. I am sure my hubby is going to love me telling him all I can do, but that is part of the healing and we need to be proud of all our our accomplishments along the way. I am looking forward to physio, need to get up and rolling by end of June and am hoping this will be a distant memory by then and life will return to normal.
Rena, yes our foot/toes tell us what and when they need help from us. Still waiting to see pictures of your foot. REST, EVLEVATE and ICE. Its not over yet. I am sure I will feel the same way once my bandages come off. Another week for me to go. Time is flying by, thank goodness. Getting tired of couch surfing here, but thats the way it goes. I go away for two months every summer and there is no TV there, so getting it all in now.
Have another wonderful day, and look after yourself cause "Your worth it"

Rena - my 2nd toe looks a very weird shape. Nobly with dents and lumps all the way down. As you prob remember, I had a pin and I am assuming your toe is fused like mine. It's still swollen so hoping it will return to look a bit more normal by the time this it's all healed. I feel happier that you say yours is the same.
Sounds like everyone else is on track. Went to a cafe for lunch. Lots of cobbled stones here to walk on. You notice every uneven paving slab and there are quite a few, so BEWARE when you all walk outside.
BOB - YOU ARE VERY BRAVE BUT YOU ARE DOING TOO MUCH. Sorry about the caps, just want you to listen. You seem very fit, so maybe you will heal quicker, but it may extend your recovery. Nag over.

Jilly and Jan - so wonderful for you both. I can hardly wait for that day to come. Let me know how the driving goes Jan. Dont work too long on your feet and remember to ice and elevate, thats our life for a while i guess.
Day 12 today!! Had a bad sleep last night. Was so hard to get comfy and so sick of back sleeping but there is nothing I can do. I have a question..........Do you find your foot gets HOT. I am finding that the bottom of my foot especially. Hubby says it a healing sign. I am still icing by at the ankle and behind the knee area. Can I ice on top of my toes?
My g/f when she came to visit on Tuesday brought me the BIGGEST bag of Easter eggs I have ever seem. Today I dont want to see another one. Ate way too many yesterday. Too much sugar. Today I will eat healthy stuff and more fruit it I need sugar. Feeling a little fluffy these days.
Hope everyone else is having a great day.

Best of luck Jill and Jan !
A number of gorgeous days coming up here....glorious !
Still more achy than before big bandage came off so I guess this is the new norm for a while.
Anita my foot also gets very hot and I do ice on top but not directly on the toes. I even ice on the bottom sometimes.
Have a comfortable and patient day all ! 😃

This is a tough process. Back is bothering me and frustration, not keeping pace with housework and I'm sure Saint Annette is getting burnt.
Time for Ab crunches and knee pushups.
REMEMBER, SOMEONE ELSE HAS IT WORSE THE US.
Have a blessed day !!!!

Eileen, I drove my car today and it was fine. I thought my big toe would hurt but the pressure was mainly on the bottom of my right foot and is was absolutely fine. Only do it if you feel confident.
I still have swelling, but it's getting less every day.
Anita, foot feeling hot is normal and will come and go.
Bob - I could do with borrowing you if you are good at housework!! Good luck with your recovery. It will be quicker than you think. And soon be over.. Hope your Mom is ok and Annette home soon.
Rena - if your Avatar is of your feet, then your hammer toe left foot, looks exactly the same as mine.
Thank you for your company over the last 8 weeks and Happy Bunionless Recovery.

He didn't give me any exercises apart from telling me to push my big toes up and down at least three times a day. When asked about walking and other exercising he said that the only thing I wasn't to do for the next three months was either run or jump.....................I haven't done either for a considerable period of time!!
I am allowed to drive whenever I want so I'll work up to that when my walking is a bit more normal.
It certainly felt very strange to be out and about in normal shoes today- that will take some getting used to! Looking forward to more fresh air and gentle exercise outside- hope the weather gets warmer soon.
