Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

I tried to send you the link to the Next website but now my post is awaiting approval! Look under sandals- don't think my feet are quite narrow enough yet to wear this shoe but I also love the French manicure on the toes!

I called the surgeons office today to tell them that my foot is really HOT. They said to take my bandages off, WHAT. All along I kept saying when can the bandages come off, and they kept saying when the stiches come out. So now I can do it. Going to my Dr. in the morning, I cant wait to get the bandages off. So happy for that. Cant wait, its just going to be a long production getting up and down the stairs and believe me I will be taking my scooter with me.

Eileen, thanks I will go on next site. They are lovely, don't think I will get them this year, other foot is to be do e yet. Definately go for a nice foot manicure, like most people here, spent years hiding my feet, looking forward to pampering them.

Bob you are just having a dip in your recovery days....I have found through this process , its me that wants to get on with things...... but the operated foot says

" WOOOOOOOO steady on, I'M in control of when it gets better, relax...... and I will let it happen"

Occasionally I behave like a petulant child and shout " I want to be normal again NOW "

Im now in shoes and walking round the house and doing gardening. Walking to the end of the road and back is tiring and VERY SLOOOOOOW.I'm concentrating on using heel through to toe.

The consultant said to take 6 weeks off work it has now been 8 weeks and looks like another 2 weeks before Im back at work.

I have to have the right foot done next year. .... Yikes

Listen to your foot and it will talk to you and tell you when it is ready....... Bonkers I know!!!!!!

I too am now back in shoes and I'm so slow- I know exactly what Be is saying. I can't believe how tiring a short walk is. Somehow I thought that I would bounce back to where I was before surgery- rushing around and able to walk for ages. My feet are talking loud and clear- sit down and take it easy!

    DAY 23 - Morning everyone

First order of business is good luck to Jan and thanks for all the help, suggestions and encouragement to myself and everyone else.

Yesterday I went out for 1 1/2 hours. Lest amount of time and it's exactly what be said. My foot was telling me to go home and sit still, elevated with ice.

Morning's my foot seems like I'm making progress and then at night I feel like it's 3 steps back.

Like Eileen said my foot is talking to me.

My thinking is I don'tt know if I'd do this again and reality is I have to get the other one done. I feel like what has happened to my life!!!!

ANITA - good luck today. I find myself staring at my foot half the day waiting for the day I can walk down the beach without a complex over my feet and people staring at them and not having to bury them in the sand.

Rena, Carman, Joan hope you are doing ok.

Love and Respect to All and thanks again for the support!!!!!!

Bob, nice to hear from you, I used to bury my feet in the sand too, my aim is to be on a lovely sandy beach with my perfect feet, dipping my perfectly manicured toes into the water. Think it maybe next year before that happens, but it will.

I have the same thing as you at night, always sore, uncomfortable and burning, is it just because you are trying to sleep and things always seem worse during the night.

I walked to the hairdressers today, it took ages, not that far, but achieved something, also got to buy myself a nice bar of chocolate as a reward.

I am going to tidy and do a little cleaning now as I have had a good rest.

    Afternoon everyone,

It's been such a nice today, I've spent most of it sitting in the garden with my foot elevated. I overdid it again yesterday and struggled to move around today so said to myself it was going to be a rest day.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well.

    Still doing the daily exercises.

    Have a lovely weekend all.

    Morning Bunion Friends!!

Just got back from the Dr. office where he changed my bandages. Foot looks good but WOW the scar sure is long, didnt expect that and its on the top of my foot. I seen others have it on the side. Dr says to take off bandages and expose to the air while I am at home. MIL is supposed to come over for lunch today and I will show her and she what she thinks. Going up and down the stairs this morning on my ass was really exhausting. Took my scooter to the Dr and he like it. I only feel once, with the crutches getting into the car, grrrrrrrrrr. No harm done. It sure was exhausting and now I am ready for a nap.

Sorry I cant respond to everyone this morning but I am thinking of you all. Going for a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

ENjoy Friday, one more week done!!

    Morning/Afternoon BB's ! (bunionless buddies)

Had a bit of a set back since the stitches and thick dressing removed Monday afternoon. Not sure exactly why but as soon as I put my foot down after dressing change felt a big difference. Long story short, each day got a little more painful to heel/side walk eventhough was keeping foot elevated a lot until finally it hurt even elevated. Both toes and areas substantially more swollen and bruised looking yesterday evening than at dressing change so I got serious about icing 30 mins on and 30 mins off for about 6 hours until 3:00 a.m. This morning hobbling around is slightly better and no pain while elevated. Will try to be disciplined and continue with strict icing regime today.

Does anyone know why the dressing change should make such a difference? If not much better by Monday I'll call the surgeon's office but hate bother them....

Soo Bob I'll be keeping you company inside today along with Anita and all others taking it real easy !

Anita how does the foot feel now that it's out of prison ? LOL I was also wiped after the Monday visit to the clinic....hear ya oud and clear.

Joan and Eileen....thanks for continuing to share this stage of your experiences...so helpful in preparing those of coming up behind you!

Carmen....I get great pleasure thinking of you out in your garden....enjoy!

Comfort and Patience to all ! smile

Rena, Have to say that 30 mins of icing is too long. Every hour on the hour for 20mins is enough. I asked and too much icing is not good either. As well always use a kitchen t-towel to wrap the ice in, never direct ice on the area. Behind the knee is good as well. Give it a try, cant hurt.

It's amazing how advice differs from doctor to doctor. I was told to ice every two hours for no longer than 20mins,any longer and you will land up causing more harm. That was after my dressings came off. Rena I agree with Anita 30mins is too long.

OK thanks ladies ! Will drop it back to the 20 mins. Since dressing off I'm using the gel packs wrapped in a tea towel which do get warmer faster than the bag of peas and I suspect are less cold to begin with as well.
