Help for 25 yr old daughter please!

Hi ladies,

I know this is a site for women like us...but wondered if any of you had advice or experience for my 25 yr old daughter?

In the last two years she's been diagnosed with an over active thyroid and is now on low dose of carbutazmol. Plus has had two ovarian cysts removed from left side.

She also copes with ADHD!...Also only diagnosed whist at uni, three years ago!

So, for a young woman, in a good relationship and working, quite a lot to cope with...

She feels her moods are all over the place, she's in pain and very hormonal. Bad concentration, anxiety etc

We go the consultants and Dr's but they really are not much help. We read articles on web that correlates cysts with iodine or with thyroid...there's so much info out there but we have to be so careful as much isn't well researched.

She needs someone to take her problems in hand and say do/take this this and this...but we can't find that person.

I read that theanine (amino acid found in green tea) can help with ADHD and calm you down. Maybe a good multi vitamin for her age? Starflower for hormones?

Any help appreciated. Think we'll have to find a way ourselves...

Thank you j

Hi Janeben, I have knowledge or experience about thyroid disorders, but I have a lot of sympathy for your situation, especially in how difficult it is to get good advice. I checked and there is a thyroid chat forum. Wish you well.

    Hi Janeben,

I can't comment on thyroid, but i can on Green Tea, i have been told by GP am peri menopausal after recent blood tests.  I have been drinking Green Tea now for about a month for hormonal problems and i can say that i does work.  I feel fine, no mood swings (fingers crossed) i dont particularly like the taste on its own but with mint and other flavours is ok.

    Hi Jane,

Your daughter seems to be having a really tricky time - just when she shouldn't have any worries.

I don't have experience or knowledge - I'm sorry - re those conditions, as the only people I have known with thryoid problems have been older, ie age-related. My experience (even with good doctors) is that medical people don't often talk about vitamins and minerals, except where they see evidence of a real shortage, whereas many of us find vitamin B group, iron etc useful, particularly with hormones. Maybe she could ask the GP if it's ok to take some vitamin B complex.  I have been taking a multi-vitamin liquid with gentle iron (available in most chemists and supermarkets) for a year and I'm much less 'up' and 'down' with hormones and life generally. My Dad was a strong, capable man but swore by vitamin B complex for stress. I know anxiety is only one aspect of your daughter's situation but it may be worth trying. I wish you  and her well.

Have you explored Borrelia (L yme Disease) as a possible cause because the above symptoms are very common with the disease?  It can be transmitted by insects, in utero, blood transfusions, animal bites, sex etc.  Causes anxiety and various autoimmune disorders.  If you think it's worth exploring - type the name of the disease in the Facebook search engine.  Members of the relevant groups would be happy to answer your questions re tests and list of specialist medical doctors (regular doctors do not have a clue about this disease).  Tests are done in US or Germany (as local tests not sensitive enough).  Good news is, it can be treated.  All the best.

    Hi Janeben

Understand what your daughter is going through I myself suffer from hypothyroidism

when I went into menopause my thyroid went from being low to high my level was really low at a .50 they say a .40 would be hyperthyroidism

i was experincing a lot of the hyperthyoidism

Maybe a antidepressant will help her moods or calm them some talk to her doctor about it.

Take care and wish you luck
