Help: How Do I Tell Someone I Like that I Have Herpes

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi everyone. I was just diagnosed with Herpes and on Acyclovir three times a day for seven days. I just recently met a guy, and we have been seeing each other for three weeks. We really like each other, so now my question is how do I tell him that I was just diagnosed with Herpes? I am also extremely scared to do it because he might just go and leave, which is something that is totally understandable.

Any advice?

If you have had sex with him or received oral sex from him a few days before your outbreak and diagnosis, then it's most likely him that gave it to you, in which case he already has it himself (possibly without symptoms).

He's been the only one I am seeing. And if he did give it to me, how do I bring it up? I am extremely scared at this moment. I honestly do not know what to do. I am feeling extremely exhausted, have fever, loss of appetite, and with sore throat

Which HSV type were you diagnosed with, HSV1 or HSV2, and how? Swab test? That would be good to establish first.

It all started 3 weekks ago. We hung out Sunday and messed around. The next day I started feeling sick: sore throat, 104.2 fever, loss of appetite, and muscle weakness. I went to an urgent care and got a anti-inflamatory steroid shot, and the pain subsided. Tuesday I went to the doctor for a complete blood test. I called them back yesterday and they told me that I have HSV but will not disclose details until I went to their office. I am on my way to their office right now. But I was adviced to start taking Acyclovir yesterday. I hope to update you when I find out more information today.

      Thank you for listening.

I just told him and he told me that he is HIV positive... What do I do now? I am just devasted because there is a possibility that he has Herpes and did not know it. Also, I would feel bad if I gave it to him because he just revealed he's HIV positive and could be at a greater risk for AIDS. He said he needed some time off to think.

      HIV is what he has.

He just told me and now he's blocked me on everything. I cannot contact him by the phone or social media.

Why on earth do you feel bad, and why does he need time to think? Think about what?? He is the one who has put you at serious risk for HIV (was the sex protected?) and already given you herpes, without telling you about either disease first. That is absolutely despicable and unforgivable, even illegal in some places. You should be furious, and the only person you should be upset for is yourself! You had better test for HIV at 4 weeks and 3 months by the 4th generation combo test. Fyi, HSV2 increases the risk of contracting and transmitting HIV, and vice versa.

I was cleared for HIV and everything else except HSV 2. I honestly do not know why I felt bad. But he left me already and blocked me from anything. I am feeling better because of all the support I am getting. The sex was unprotected which was my fault. I just wish I was smarter and stronger. Thank you for listening.

HIV has a testing window period, like all diseases. You are not in the clear unless you pass the 4th gen. HIV ab/ag combo test at 4 weeks, and again at 3 months to be absolutely sure (second test can be a standard HIV test). There are other tests with shorter time to detection, but it's unlikely you had these done. Better find out the HIV test type you had done. Window periods vary.

Thank you so much. I have spoken to a couple of friends, but it isn't the same because they do not know what I am going through. Again, I would like to thank you for extending help and encouragement. I am coming to peace with my diagnosis. I can say that I am no longer in denial about it.
