Ouch, that looks painful and as if skin is missing! Herpes doesn't look like this, nor would it persist for two months. Were you swabbed for herpes and other possible causes? What did your doctor suggest, since they said it's not herpes. Have they given you any medicine, creams?

I googled penile yeast infections and the photos I found look just like yours in some cases, so I think you're doctor is right. Antibiotics can worsen yeast infections and antivirals should have no bearing. You need antifungals.

But it doesn't look like herpes at all, yet does look like yeast-based balanitis. Google it. Also herpes wouldn't stick around for two months like this. It would be healed after 2-3 weeks.

First outbreaks are nearly always worse, but they still don't look like that and would still typically clear in 2-3 weeks. Recurrences are much milder and clear within a week.

The crossreaction issue occurs more with the IgM test, if I'm not mistaken, not so much IgG. The only issue with the IgG test is HSV1 causing a low false positive for HSV2 with the HerpeSelect IgG test kit. You may simply have pre-existing HSV1, likely asymptomatic oral, as do two-thirds of the population.
