Help regarding a very painful healed fibula fracture

Hi, back in early February I fractured my fibula on a work night out, I was put in a plaster for a week then given a grey moon boot for the duration. I had an appointment with the hospital a week ago, had another x-ray and it showed my fracture healed. The doctor at the hospital said I can now take off the boot and start gradually walking in normal shoes again. But the problem is I still have a very painful limp? I can't walk without crutches. The doctor who was assisting me at the hospital never suggested I may need physiotherapy. Can someone please tell me why it is so painful to walk still? Will this improve? It's really starting to get me down being so immobile. Any information would be greatfully received.
