hemorrhoidectomy hell

Hi Everyone

Had my surgery 22 July 2020 and am on day 4. Today has been by far the worst. I’ve been to the toilet 3 times. It burns like a mother!! I had this surgery years ago. And I didn’t go to the toilet for 7 days the first time. I had the surgery a second time because they came back after baby. They removed 3 hemmys. So this time I’ve been having Movacol and Coloxyl to make my poo soft. Well it’s been like diarrhea. I think I over did it. But I haven’t eaten much because I’ve been feeling sick and in pain.

I just want some advice.

Do you think the diarrhea would be worse then having a soft but more solid poo? I think diarrhea burns at the best of times right?

Also anyone else who’s had this surgery, did you feel like you needed to poo even when you didn’t because of the pressure?

I’ve been reading your stories and it seems like most people were in hell during recovery of this procedure. I’m no wimp but man this has knocked me around.

Any advice tips would be greatly appreciated.

diarrhea is definitely worse than just a soft bowel movement. you must be in Australia because i was given exactly the same as you. i only took movicol and had to play with the dosages to stop the runs. you are coming up to the worst days pain wise hold in there you can get through this

i had severe diarrhea on the 4th-5th day bc of the bowl movement softener stuff i was taking. i went like 5x. it was so painful, burning, and it made it so raw and unbearable down there. unfortunately the doctor said there was nothing i could do but just wait for it to pass. after that, i was so scared to take any of that softner stuff and wad behind on dosage which caused major constipation the 2nd week (also from my pain meds). yes, i did feel so much pressure down there to poop but nothing came out..its the worst feeling. my advice is to try to get off the pain meds if u are on it. drink lots of water. and get some movement in. i literally walked around my house over and over and kept drinking water for me to finally release. it was painful, almost fainted on the toilet, but felt sooo good at the same time to have a real bm. you got this!! hang in there!!

I too had the open haemorrhoidectomy on 24th to remove internal hems. Was given tramadol and laxido (movicol) and left same day. Pain was ok for day 1 and 2 after surgery. First bowel movement was day 3 and was more uncomfortable than painful. Had 5 BMs on day 4 which was hell! Now on day 5 and 6 had 2 BM after reducing intake of laxido. It stings and throbs like hell for most of the day now but especially after BM. I have been seeping blood / discharge since op too which is disgusting. Hopefully the stinging indicates healing is underway. I use prep h wipes and shower right after BM and dry area with hair dryer. Keeping to plain diet, mostly fresh veg, fruit and soups and drinking min 4l water a day.

It is a rough recovery that is for sure! Take care!

First few weeks were brutal. I am just now starting to feel human again.

How are you doing? hows the pain?

Had op 28th and yes, softer but formed feel less awful. I find if I use the shower attachment on my anus it stimulates a movement if I'm not sure. This is a real roller coaster from I can gather but try to cut back on meds. I'm trying to get by on paracetamol. Lying on a hot water bottle after movement is soothing.

i had mine done on july 8. The first week was hell week. After that things gradually started improving. I also felt the urge to go even when i didnt need to. Do you have a sitz bath? I feel like that was my best friend throughout the ordeal.

Thanks for your reply. I don’t have a sits bath but I have a regular bath. When I need to go to the toilet I run a bath first and then get straight in. I know what you mean. The bath has been my best friend for a few weeks now. I was telling a friend about my pain and she’s like “can’t you just poo in the bath”. The bath was the best place to be and a bit of comfort. I didn’t want to associate it with doing a poo in there.

The first couple of weeks, you get scared you are never going to be a normal person again. The pain is horrendous and the psychological torture you go through when you know you need to poo... it’s exhausting!!

I am starting to feel better and the pain is manageable when I go now.

      How are you doing?

Wow, you have lost a lot of weight. Is that because you are too scared to eat? I was like that at first. Why do you have diarrhea? Are you sick? You can get a sore bum from going so much and sometimes it burns. Maybe its just sore from that. I totally understand. It was hell. I wouldnt want to go through that again either!

    Hi Apple,

sorry i cant help with answering your questions because im only 2 days post op, it got really bad after baby number 3

but i did have a question in regards to you saying they came back after baby.

were you constipated during pregnancy for them to come back? or was it babys weight and pressure causing them to come back?

i have 3 kids but may want a 4th down the track in a few years and really dont want them to cone back and have to go through this surgery again! lol
