Hemorrhoids. Should I have surgery?

Well, I think that the ones who post are primarily the ones who have issues.  But:  I know 2 people who had the surgery and they convinced me to avoid it at all costs.  Docs keep talking about new alternatives...laser? Banding? Have you tried all the home remedies? Cleveland Clinic says Epsom salts and glycerin worth a try. Yoga poses? Fiber? Lotsa water? Reduced sodium? And a jillion other ideas? I’m just fishing, I know, but I keep thinking something has gotta work sooner or later. Best wishes....

Hi, I was the same 3 Large hems that ended up bleeding more and more and had to wear pads. No pain at all but horrible, never felt clean and eventually was extremely anemic to point of blood transfusion. The op recovery is awful, I won’t lie, it took a month before I felt human again. I’m now 3 1/2 months after and have been fine, such a relief, but now think I have small hem that is painful! Try everything you can before going for surgery, but if you’re anemic you may have to. Yes try the banding first, did not work for me, sadly, there is also laser treatment. Leave surgery as the last option. Let me know how it goes. If it has to be surgery, would be happy to be here for you. X

Hi, I had grade 4, had the operation which my doctor has told me was difficult. When I came out of surgery I was sick so had to stay in over night. They make sure that you can pee before you go home. First two weeks I found myself very slow when walking. When I had a BM is was sore but you have to that it slowly. After very BM is when it the bath. I got paracetamol and dihydrocodeine for pain. To soften the BM l got fybogel and lactulose which worked for me. Since the operation I have had an appointment with my surgeon to see if everything is okay and this is when he told me about my operation. Everything is fine. I am so glad I had the operation. I just have to eat a high fibre diet. Also you have to drink plenty of water before and after the operation. Where are you ?

Hi, did you have them banded or the full hemorriodectomy? So glad that you have come through it so well. I am ok, 3months now. Still can’t say that it’s normal, but think I will have to live with that. I’m certainly not having any more surgery down there, not going through that again! 

I had the surgery on 12/7/2017! Honestly, it was probably one of the best decisions of my entire life. I am still recovering and still have quite a bit of pain when having a BM. But from the looks of it, I consider myself lucky in the recovery process compared to others. I had three internal (Grade 3) hemorrhoids removed. 

It's important to research this surgery and recovery stories because this surgery is something you do not want to sugarcoat. Check my post history for my experience with the recovery. Most people who go through it regret it but when it is done they wonder why they didn't have it sooner. Good luck!

I had them cut out and have been back to my surgeon to make sure everything is okay.

Had a HALO-RAR on NHS four days ago. Had few grade 3, and severe anemia. HALO is much easier to recover than full Haemorrhoidectomy. Still in discomfort, but I am off strong painkillers from day 2, only paracetamol now. And they say I should be 90% back in 2 weeks. Would this be an option for you?
