Hello I'm new to the group..So Wednesday i got my results back from my sti panel. Everything was negative but my Test for HSV-1&2 was positive. Ive never had an out break.my doctor says i showed antibodies for the virus, but it was from an old out break. How do you know if its active if you don't even have symptoms? How do you deal with the stress of finding out? This all new to me. Should i go get a second opinion?

I would look into the western blot by terri warren it is 99% accurate compared to the iggs its a little pricey though.

no you have to physically call the university and ask them to send you the supplies and then go to a lab to get blood work to send back to them its a process and pricey but its accuracy is 99% compared to igg

however if you just are a carrier it is possible to have it without ever having an outbreak or symptoms

So if I'm a carrier, how do i know if I'm passing to some one i want to be sexual with? If I dont know when im having an outbreak?

I think it is very important that you get tested again. years ago I got tested for all STDs and my test results for herpes came back positive for type 1 and 2. I had never had an outbreak in my entire life, no symptoms whatsoever. I lived for years feeling depressed thinking that I could be a possible carrier and spread the virus. one day I confided in a friend about it and she told me that I should go and get tested again, especially since I never had an outbreak. I decided to go and get tested again and guess what....it came back negative for both!! I was shocked! I decided to get tested yet again just to be sure and it also came back negative. If you have never had an outbreak i would be very skeptical of a positive herpes test. I think the best way to get tested is if you suspect an outbreak and get it swabbed. hope this helps.

Thank You so much and since the diagnose i have been beating myself up about it. I had terrible thoughts cause all i heard was my doctor saying if i wanted children i would pass it. If i wanted to be sexual activate with someone i would pass it. How long did you wait to get restested..im 27 and feel like my life is ruined

did you also test positive for type 1? pardon me if it's there, but i dont see it. your hsv 2 is in the low positive range. if I were you, considering you've never had symptoms, I would retest through a different lab first. if it's a low positive again, I would then seek the western blot. however I'm curious to know your hsv1 values because sometimes hsv1 positive status will throw that type 2 off
