Herpes Diagnosis in a long-term relationship - the chat

Hi there,
I am just wondering if anyone who received their genital herpes diagnosis while in a committed, long-term relationship has any advice about having the chat with their partner. We've been together for more than 10 yrs and I just don't know how to approach the subject. Part of me just wants to keep it to myself and avoid sex...I don't want it to change our relationship.
Any advice from those with experience?

Tell him or her and be brave to face it.

Definitely don’t keep it to yourself, you have to tell him. If he really loves you he will accept you, just make sure you know what your talking about. Do your research. Herpes is NOT life threatening, it is a skin condition. Herpes is spread by skin to skin contact, not by blood or secretions, etc. do your homework, then sit down and talk to him. Give him time to process everything & if he can’t right away give him time!

I have been faithful and suspected I had something like 10 years ago...my results came back negative at that time but from what I've read timing can be factor for testing. I was super upset at the time but told myself not to worry about it because the tests didn't show anything but if it ever showed up again I'd push for further investigation. A bump showed up in a place there shouldn't be bumps a few months ago.
